Does anyone out there know how to changethe back light illumination of the heater controls of my late model Mk1 cabrio 1992. If not does anyone know if there are any seat or Audi models that have the same controls but in red. I have just changed the illumination of my dials using ultra violet LED's and the effect combined with red LED's is almost identical to a Mk4 golf. Would show pics, but am new to this and cant figure out how to.
Also after months of looking have sourced clear optic front indicators for the same car, these items are impossible to get in the UK, I will try to import some if there is enough interest, I am waiting for mine to arrive, and will check quality etc. I have no idea as to the price, but think they will be around the £45 mark a pair, although this may come down considerably if I can place a bulk order.

thanks for the advice on uploading pics. I also tried the blue ones but the needles just didn't stand out, the trick that I used was to paint the needles in luminous orange paint, and used a fine security marker for going over the numbers on the dials, it took half an hour to do but the numbers really lit up a treat when finished. the pictures do not do it justice though. the blue/purple glow inthe background that you see is not present to the naked eye, it just took a really long exposure on my camera (hense the wobble too!)
ps. let me know if the link to the pics works.<a href="http://img171.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dials10eq.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/1903/dials10eq.th.jpg" border="0" alt="Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us" /></a>

well I finally did it, I got a replacement heater control at E38, and took it apart, it is glued in about 6 small places just lever it appart betwen the white rear and the black surround, then I sanded off the green backing paint, and replaced the bulb with a redLED and resistor from Maplins (cost £1.50), replaced all my switch bulbs with red LEDs too. just gotta sort out a replacement cigarette lighter from an Audi or seat, and it will look the biz. might even post a pic.

where did you get the paint from mate?? About to attack my dash in a week or so!!
Cheers

the paint is just from a model shop, if you can try to get the matt finish, as if you use gloss you get reflections of the bulbs, and for some reason the matt finish glows a lot better. here is a pic of mine with the switches done, just waiting for the lighter to get done...next.

cheers mate, well I think I will be busy visiting a few scrappies tomorrow, I will try and get a new passat one...might have to make the hole a wee bit bigger though.

just got a lighter today from a seat Toledo, circa 1994. A perfect fit, same size and rear fittings are exact too, a straight swap in the MK1, cant wait till it gets dark to have a look..!

That pic looks great. Must try that on one of my Mk2's. Been thinking what to do about the dim green lights for a while...
