Hi all am I right in saying to remove the rear boot lock on my mk2 that I have to take the off the trim that surrounds the lock (covers the number plate bulbs ) if this is right then is there any were I can buy new bolts and the plastic clips because the 4 bolts have rusted and rounded off :whistle:

Yes, you have to remove the tailgate plinth, as it traps the lock in position, the lock should have a thin piece of foam gasket that traps against the tailgate, this stops it rattling when you shut the tailgate, and cuts down on water entering the tailgate, just use a plasticine type sealer to replace the gasket if it disintegrates
The screws and clips are available from the Dealer, or VW Heritage, you may have a problem with the square holes that the clips fit into corroding! if this is the case, you may need to use another type of fixing!

Screws or bolts, most mk2s had plated large Phillips screws, but some later cars had 8mm black plated spire self tapping bolts, either should be available from a fixings stockist
