Title: Problems with RCD510 install
Post by: jhunter_83 on 02 May 2013, 19:58
Hello,

Just swapped from standard headunit to a RCD510 that I bought from ebay.

The system switches on when you turn the key to position 1, but when you start the engine the system goes off.

It will go on when you switch it on at the unit but switches itself off after a while. it also wont switch off when you take the keys out of the ignition.

Do I need to do something for it to work or is it a faulty unit?

I have read about ignition switches but the fact that it switches on when turning the key to position 1 makes me think that isn't the problem.

It is in a mk6 GTI.

Thanks

Anyone help? I've tried a second radio in and it's doing the same but my standard one is working fine

Sounds like problems with the wiring. Should be plug and play if you are replacing a RCD 300 version.

Thanks, took it to VW and they diagnosed it as faulty ignition switch.

It has now been done and working fine.
