Title: People in car parks - doors damaging your car? Why o why!!
Post by: synnea on 05 August 2005, 12:36

Please. Why do people in car parks not consider the car next to them. My brand new silver GT TDI - i have had two inconsiderate "£$%" let their doors 'fling' open into the side of mine!!!!!!

I cant stand it - i now have two paint chips of the driver side of my motor. Is there anything to stop this???? Car parking spaces are simply not wide enough in my opinion.

In both cases I saw it happen - I say 'watch your door mate', 'look you have just taken a paint off my car'. I actually want to beat the sh1t out of them after it as all you get is a look!!

Does anyone else agree or am I being unfair. I take care when opening my door, why cant some other people!

Its common courtesy to check what you doing when opening door. Its the same ol thing though .. you could park in an empty car park ... go to the shop .. come back and someone will have parked next to you even though there is a whole car park free.

Couldn't agree with you more there brett, I reluctantly park my mk2 in supermarkets carparks but when I do I always park miles away from the shop where there is plenty of space. 90% of the time somebody has parked next to it by the time I return!!!

The other week I parked my bus at homebase, to be courteous I parked it at the end of the carpark where nobody else had parked. When I returned a bl00dy ford focus has parked so close to it I had to get in through the passengers side!!! Figure that one out

its a worry!!!the more you try to stop something like that happening the more chance of it happening.

if it was me and i saw the person, i would take the number plate and go through insurance.

it happening to me with my celica, £400 to get it fixed!!!!!!!!

I am now so paranoid about it happening to me again, that for the past 5 years I can say that I have never parked my new car in a public car park other than in a 'far of' position and parked nose to tail style. If you do get a bump, it will be either front or rear bumber (easier to repair, I think anyway) and not metal side bodywork. Even at work I park at the furthest point in the car park where nobody else would dream of parking, even in pouring rain, folk must think I'm nuts, I just say it is my way of getting some exercise. Some days I know I am not going to be able to avoid dodgy parking spaces, so I have been running two cars, one an old banger, a MkII Gti that I use most days for work, great fun but seems daft having a 14 grand car in my garage and using a £400 MkII Golf to avoid damage to my new car. Sods law, never had one ding in the old banger, even parking in the tightest of spots.

it irritates the hell out of me. Had an old git in a sh!t box park next to my old pug 206 gti while i was sat in it waitin for the missus to buy something pointless and he slammed his door right into mine, while i was sat there! He didnt say a word. I was so mad I nearly started on the bastard.

Thats my next rant, old people should not be allowed to drive. f**k their independance, buy a buss pass, save lives!

deep breaths....

all you can really do is take down the reg's before you leaven then if theres any damage you mite be in luck of reporting it with so many carparks having cctv

other than that you  can park on an angle accross 2 bays, as long as it isnt a very busy car park

The last time someone scratched my car and denied it and told me to f**k off. So i beat him up. I think you should do the same.   Some people need a beating!

I'll park and take up 2 spaces purely because of this.
Some old biddy pointed out that I had taken up 2 spaces on a visit to B&Q once. I told her about the doors and people just banging them into my car. she said it's just a car. I walked off.

^^well she ios old so she probably had the inch-thcik glasses on...

My old car, i used to not be bothered, was a right state as it is....but the one im driving at the mo isn't mine so i am an ickle bit more careful.

And don't get me started on my old college car park, no one was able to park properly, so the only way the/you could get out the car was either to exit through the sunroof, bit difficuly when you havent got one, or to smash it into the sh!tter next you, especially when they had parked out of a bay and blocked you into your space....but thats another story and in short, saxo boy shouldn;t have blocked in an old car that was really a tank

I'm so glad it's not just me who drives to the back of car parks to try and avoid o.a.p's smashing their doors on my car....even though the old duffer's usually got a brand new sporty Jag or beemer!!

I think you should ask for their insurance details if they smack your door. If they've created damage to your door, why the hell should you put up with it. If they don't like it they can take it up with their insurance company.

I saw a bloke smack a door of another car once and put a crease in the door of the other car. I got out and told him I saw him do it, he told me to f**k off - so I took his car details and waited for the other guy. Bloke was so mad he thought I had done it and kicked off! Wasn't till he looked at the colour of the paint left he realised what I said was true. Some people eh?!

I had a similar situation a few years back with a Corrado, I'm sat in the car when some woman towing a few kids returns to her car opposite...................well you can guess the rest..............kid kicks open the door right into the side of mine.............I get out and tell the woman she should be more carefull and am basically just ingored like its my fault.................I always try to park right out the way but as already been said theres always some dork who'll park right next to your car like some little lost sheep.

I returned to my Vento only to find a dent in the boot lid just below the spoiler  , all I can think is that some a-hole in a truck or 4x4 did it as I can't figure out what else could reached it .
If I have to get in my car when other cars are close I always put my fingers around the door to make sure I don't damage either car ....

I have drummed in to my kids to be very careful when opening the doors when other cars are parked close , it's a pity other parents don't do the same.

Thought about getting the car resprayed but what's the bl@@dy point as it's bound to get bu66ered the first time out in a car park !! :undecided:

My mate keyed the f**k out of this car that left a dint on his door. that was too funny

I park next to posh cars because i dont think the owners would bash their doors.

I hate the way people scratch the area where the door handle is with their long nails! pisses me right off. had to pollish a few out!

Hi

Just thought I'd tell you about my experience of people bashing thier car doors etc into our precious cars.

About 5 years ago I turned up at a Leisure Centre car park to play 5 a side footie which was at 9pm. Being 10 minutes early and the car park being relativley dead at that time of night, I parked my car away from all the other cars left, and sat in the car listening to the radio.

Two minutes later some Astra came racing into the car park and decided to reverse park into the space next to me (I had a top of the range Calibra at the time).

Well to cut a long story short he ended up reverse parking into the side of my door and taking my wing mirror off at the same time!! Turned out to be some 17 year old lad who was only a week away from getting his first years NCB!!

Needless to say I took him to the cleaners insurance wise, but I couldn't help thinking that if I wasn't in the car would he of left his details?  I THINK NOT!!

Mark

I used to work in a supermarket.
Since working there I've probably got about 400 in repairs to the bodywork.
Some bastard dented the car just under the Golf badge on the rear, looks like the passenger side had a trolley scraped across the door as there are equally spaced white spots that look like trolley dings, the door is scratched to fook on the drivers side and it was mint before I worked there!
Next time I see someone dent my car hold me back FFS!

it some times makes you wonder why we bother to have anything nice at all, it would be nice to hink most peeps are carefull with there stuff but there not....

id gone to hospital a few years back, cant remember what car i was in, thinks it might have bene the mk4, but i pulled up parked then this old crooner pulled up in his fiat marea estate and whack... opened his door into mine..... wasnt best pleased and had a right old swearing session at him, couldnt bring me self to thump him even though i felt like it... so unfortunately for him his car was still there when i left..... and a big screw driver over every drivers side panel made me feel a whole lot better.. i wouldnt normally resort to this kind of behaviour... but my cars arent just 'cars' as some peeps refer to em as.....if some body hurts m.. i hurt the person thing responsible

i think they should have barrier in between the bays in car parks... problem would be solved then!
