My GTI has xenons and when the light switch is in the "Auto" position the xenons are on all the time. Is there a way to turn them off and say just have the sidelights on when the switch is in "Auto"?
On the MFD there is an option for "corner lights" or "travel mode" or something what do these do exactly?
Will this be a Vag Com thing/
Thanks guys

That's strange, the xenons should only be on when it's dark?
I think the corner lights must be the "one fog light on" when turning, you see it on a lot of cars these days particularly Mercs... Not a fan of it myself.

If you car has the early bi-xenons without the LED's, they will be turned on all the time with the headlight switch in the OFF or AUTO position, as they are used as DRL's.
There is no option in the DIS to alter this setting, but you can turn the DRL function off completely. I can't remember the exact procedure, but it goes something along the lines of hold the left hand indicator down and the stalk in the flash position, then turn the ignition on and off. It's in the handbook anyway.
Doing this, your headlights will still function normally with the OFF, AUTO, PARKING, DIP doing exactly what you'd expect them to do.
Cornering lights on xenons is when the headlight swivels with the steering, as opposed to the winking fog lights that the GT has. Travel mode is to convert the beam when driving abroad.

Naturally I'm not questioning your knowledge dubber, but if the xenons are on all the time if the switch is in AUTO or OFF what's the point of the light sensor and AUTO function? [This question doesn't apply to my car but I'm intrigued]

Dubber, you are right, forgot to mention that the xenons are on when the switch is in the "off" position

So they will work automatically if the DRL function is turned off I guess.

That's correct.
On with the ignition - as DRLs - except if you select sidelights on the light switch.
The light sensor then switches the rear lights and dash lights on/off...but the Xenons are always on unless the sidelight position is selected.
