Reading a review of the new Mk7 gti (with power pack) in the Sunday Times the author praised the new variable rate steering rack. As an ex owner of a new Mk5 gti who sold the car because of the steering I am interested.
Does anyone know if the new rack is standard over the Mk7 range or just in the gti?

I'm pretty sure it's standard across the Mk7 range.

I'll go and test it at VW Lindale this afternoon, assuming Mk7's exist. I don't think I've ever seen one.

If you're referring to 'Progressive Steering' (seen in 1 April price list spec) then that feature is only available to GTD/GTI versions of the Mk7 Golf.

There are no GTI/D's to test drive yet but Hadwins in Grange had a few mk7's for the launch.

Mentioned here, http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=252529.10
Optional for Euro models perhaps.

Welcome back Nosher! The place is never the same without your 'observations'.
All of the mk7s have a different steering to the mk5/6 but the GTI steering is quicker still
Go have a look at a GT demo and accept the GTI will be 'better'
