I have recently got a 2001 mk4 2.0 GTI, a few times now when I have either been sitting in traffic not in gear the car just randomly stalls with no warning, the engine just shuts off, no warning lights or anything, it has done this twice while changing from second to first gear, no warning no random sound just shuts off, it struggles to start a little afterwards but after a few seconds it starts again. And once or twice after it has stalled the engine won't rev past 4000rpm, it revs and normal up to that, Can anyone help? What could be the problem?
Thanks

And then after a couple of miles the car with be back to normal revving properly

Any fault codes on vagcom
-
Nope nothing at all, it will drive fine then will pull up in traffic and it will just shut down randomly, just got back from a hard drive and had no problems at all, drove it 120 miles at the weekend and no problems, yet drove it 5 miles down the road and it cut out.

Coupd be a few things but im stumped could be maf sensor give it a clean with electrical contact cleaner
-
Throttle body clean?
-
I wanted to ask on here first to see if anyone had had this problem, what people came up with before taking it to a garage, the engine revving is a strange one as well... It's like it just stops and won't rev higher, then it will
Just change and drive normal...

Wouldn't the stalling be an electrical fault?
-
Just cleaned the hell out of the throttle body, had a small layer of grease and crap looking like brand new, hopefully that will solve the stalling!

Stalling can be a electrical fault can also be a mechanical fault thats why it can confuse people

Turns out the engine crank sensor and engine temperature sensor have packed up! Off the garage it goes :(
