I've just recently scrapped my 97 8v GTI, but took a full jetex decat back exhaust system off it. I know all of it will fit, its just the decat pipe im not too sure about.
The decat pipe ive got looks exactly like this
(http://www.awesomegti.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/150x150/4c34c403fed4e3829e247516d2c3e3a6/d/e/de-cat.jpg)
But looking at decat pipes for a VR6 they seem to be like this
(http://www.direnza.co.uk/image/cache/data/Exhausts%20Components/Decat%20Pipes/_DSC2636(2)-600x600.jpg)
So looks pretty obvious they wont fit, but just double checking as the exhaust system i have was for 8v/16v & VR6, but i bought the decat seperate from the same company, so wasn't sure if it was the same fitment as the rest of the exhaust.

the 16v and vr6 exhaust is 55mm diameter from cat back.8v is 50mm.No idea why your decat is straight as iv'e only ever seen one with a bend in it as standard cat have the in and out offset.
-
My decat that is on my 8v is same as the bottom picture and yes it does fit 16v and vr6.
Is your cat short and straight?
There's two types. Short and straight think it 500mm something. The long one (bottom pic) is in the 700mm

I haven't actually got the VR yet, will be getting it in 2 weeks. So there is two different cats? This decat pipe will only fit on a certain type of cat?
So only thing i can do is wait till i get it and then just have a look to see if itll fit?
-
It looks like it won't fit as it reduces but defo wait and see if it fits
-
doubt it will fit.. the de-cat on mine is very different shape and connection to a vr6

Had a decat on my old vr and it looked like the top picture but had a flexi section in it, got it from Dubpower to match my 6 branch.
-
Ive got one of the bottom ones up for grabs.
I wonder if it has anything to to with it being OBD1 or 2
Been told only thing the decat does on the Mk3 is add volume only reason I never changed it over mines loud enough

There are 2 types of cat a 710mm and a 510mm as mentioned above just measure the length of your cat and get the decaf that matches hope this helps
