Can any of you good fellows here tell me which would be the best place to route this from the engine bay to the boot.Apologies for not putting this in the audio section, thought id get a quicker response here.Cheers lads.Lee

pull back the carpet a bit on the passenger side under the lower glovebox theres a rubber grommet behind there.

Through the grommet then under the seal cover. You will see all the cables that are clipped in once you unclip the cover. Use that down the passenger side. Then under the carpet, under the rear bench and your there.

I used the same location. I found it easier wiring it through from the engine bay as the grommet is clearly visible.  Don't do as I did though and remove the grommet, then run the wire through connecting it all up and then remembered I hadn't run the wire through the grommet, just the hole in the bulkhead !

Always place the in-line fuseholder as close to the battery as possible too.  One of the easiest I've done, and I've done a few in my time....

Cheers lads.Just another quick question, ive run the cables for the front speakers down each side of the car under the interior sill trims, will I have any problems with interference from the power cable doing it this way?Could I wrap the power cable in something to stop interference?

Could someone tell me which of the grommets is the right one? The only cable I found leading back to the passenger area was the aerial lead.

Leebob, I gather from another forum (think it was talkaudio) that the best thing is to have the cables (power, 2amp, 2speakers) running with one group down the left, one down the center and one down the right.

Though I did think of just (as you were asking) using the cable piping/sleeving that came with the audio kit I bought to just wrap the cables in to keep them protected.

Wondering though whether if you coiled thin wire over the cables (as well as the sleeving)whether it would act like a twisted pair (such as in an ethernet cable) and cancel out/reduce the crossover.

Chief :)

it's the one marked in green...

ran my wire for 2nd cigarette lighter (for my camping fridge) in from there.

Thanks for the picture, I'd been looking for something with cables already feeding into it. Another site said the grommet was where the pollen filter was (hence why all I found was an aerial lead I guess).

Hi,
I think this is the same grommet as your picture:

(a metal 13mm bolt) but, where does it actually feed through to?

I removed the glovebox/lower shelf, part of the door trim and pulled back the carpet and soundproofing under-felt to try and find it, but it's pretty well hidden in the tangle of cables and the blower heater parts.

Also, I take it the grommet's hole is large enough for 4 gauge wire to fit through? (as you can see I used the probe of a multimeter to in the picture above, needle size goes in okay, but the slightly wider red section after that seems to be blocked by something.

Thanks,
           Chief :)

no thats not the grommet  :lipsrsealed:

go up and a bit right.... there is a grommet (rubber) black on the bulkhead (on your photo you can just see it left to the coolant bottle - where the weld seem is).... the bit where you've poked in the probe tip is part of the body...

I did think it strange for a bolt to be called a grommet, but the grommet you told me about is much, much further up the body of the car than your own picture seems to show, which made me wonder if it was the right one or not - I'll go screw in the bolt again... :)

why not make a hole in the big one above where you put that probe in,thats where mine goes.

I marked it there because there is one TOO :)
Which is easier to get to (and comes out in an easier to access spot behind the tray under the glove box.

Thanks - I now have a nice 12.4v supply running the length of the car :)

I take it that is with the engine off mate as you should be getting a nice 14.4v when the engine is running.

Yes that was with the engine off, I wasn't starting the engine till I'd put the replacement alternator in. Did a test again today (before alt fitting) and its now 1.4v :-s

Edit: Had a bad earth, once the earth was connected a bit better to a temporary test location (the door stop) the amplifier worked perfectly.

Never had any problems myself and I have amped speaker feeds in the same location going to the front doors.

good quality cables help reduce interference... I used to sell some cheap crap that were 100% unshielded and caused all sorts of crackel n pop!!!

Oh yes most definitely decent cables! For both the speakers and power.

Have to agree......Good quality speaker cables will help greatly if the speakers are amped. If running off the HU then the standard speaker wires are fine. Also as Len says, get some good power cable, if you can afford it then 0 gauge as most 0 gauge will handle at least 250a.
