Title: Some good news (kinda)
Post by: Wazzzer on 27 April 2013, 09:32
Stripped the Golf down last night and the oil feed pipe to the turbo is fine so no need to change it now.

I think I may have found the problem though while trying to wind out the three bolts holding the turbo to the manifold. One was completely stuck and I was having flashbacks of it snapping etc. Out came the WD40 which helped a little bit but not much. Once I got the bolt out this is what I found

So she's out of action until I get another bolt and check the thread on the turbo. I also found what looks like a water leak on the water banjo so it was a worthwhile job

Not sure yet mate, I'll be up there again tomorrow with my tap to clean it up

I've got a feeling something was in there while I was screwing it down...

Unfortunately, yes.

Took me three hours to get it to the stage of being able to remove it bar the downpipe nuts lol

Spent an hour or so on it today, tapped out all of the threads for the turbo bolts and got a bit of swarf out of the offending hole, looks like I was right and something was in there; probably something from work while I was getting the studs out. I also ran a die down all the threads on the bolts so everything screws in easily now. Manifold and nuts are also back on but not tight, will sort that next time I go up there and get it all running again

should only take that long mate yes. The manifold is the biggest PITA as some of the manifold nuts are hidden

Yeah I tried the bolts in the threads and they fit lovely now, no wobble on them at all.
