Title: Replacing the Crank Shaft sensor

Hi all

Yeap got that nice and not at all fidly job to do on the ABF this weekend!

So I think I know what to do

Remove the fan, remove the oil filter, then (without rounding the bolt) use an allen key to remove the bolt and then loads of jiggling and good luck to remove the offending CSS without removing the front engine mount

Have I missed any thing?

I'm not sure if you'll be able to get it out without taking the engine mount out...it only took me about an hour and a half start to finish, with the engine mount out.

Ah yeah read various bits and bobs and some say you need to undo the Engine mount others say you don't.

Think I'll play it safe and pan to take the mount out.

Any other tips? did it make any difference to the running? (Mine has started cutting out and the idle once warm has a mind of its own and also the the revs hang when changing gear)

Have you read the ECU fault codes? Sounds like it could be the Idle Stabilisation Valve rather than the CSS...

Vagcom showed the fault code for the CCS but I think Im going to replace the ISV as well, planning on keeping the car long term so will have to replace the CCS at some point in the furture anyway! cars done 133k so I'm guessing replacing it wont be a bad thing anyway!

Fair enough! Before I replaced the CCS it wouldn't idle but would drive absolutely fine with the ISV pulled out a little bit. The cables were completely shagged on the CCS and shorting out so I had to replace the fuse too.

I know that the cables tend to break but hadn't occurred to me to change the fuse too!

No need to take the fan out,  just support the engine with a jack and remove the front engine mount bracket for eeasier access.
