Title: Exhaust Note
Post by: Rik21 on 04 August 2005, 17:51
Hi all,

I own a 2.0fsi and would love a more throaty exhaust note. I went into a VW garage today and asked about buying a rear plastic bumper from the Mk5 Golf GTi (with the cut away for the twin exit exhaust) and they said it would be no problem at a cost of around £60 fitted.

I was just wondering whether the note on the standard mk5 GTi exhaust system was a good one or whether to opt for a new miltec system, same twin pipe look. Advantage of the mk5 GTi exhaust being that i can get a second hand used one from a seller who is upgrading his exhaust system.

What do you reckon? The Mk5 exhaust or a new Miltec? I've not really heard either but was wondering if anyone could help who has experience in them.

Many thanks,

Rik.

£60 fitted ? for the whole bumper ? somehow doubt it  does the lower valance part seperate from the main bumper ? could just be that bit they'll replace.

the standard mk5 gti exhaust sounds nice.. but then its got the blown engine to feed it. if its just the sound you're after rather than performance gains.. then it'll be cheaper to get powerflow to make you up a new backbox, or just modify your existing one. milltek are bloody brilliant (i have milltek on both my cars) but costly !

Yeah, it's just the plastic bit at the bottom i'd get replaced by VW. £40ish plus labour, however i may just fit it myself as it just looks like it clips on to the rest of the bumper.

I understand that my engine isn't a turbo so the GTi exhaust won't sound as good as it should. Might just save up and go for the miltec. My mates got one on his mini and its superb! Not too loud by growls and pops. Getting a miltec won't invalidate my VW warranty though will it?
