How come none of you drive your mk2's year round?
-
Because they're pets, not workhorses.
-
Mine gets used everyday that's what a cars for!
I find when you leave a car stood for long periods things start to leak ,seize,,brake, perish or go wrong enjoy your car while you've got it eventually the tin worm will have more fun with it than you

I bought my mk2 gti as a workhorse for £425 with mot  first weekend i had it we drove up to scotland from the south coast, didnt miss a beat even with a blowing exhaust  was a good little test run

Mine's been in the garage since the 29th October and it isn't due til mid May so I have genuinely forgotten what it's like to drive.
Having said that,it'll be like getting a new car when it's finished so that will be exciting. And just in time for the nice weather too.
I certainly won't be driving it in the wet though after spending all this time and money on it getting it right!!!
-
mine is off the road having an engine transplant then off for bodywork.
seriously tempted to flog my e36 daily and get a cheap gti as i cant see it being ready anytime soon.

This is nothing fellas, I took mine of the road at the end of April 2007! Six years ago!!! Its so close to being back on the road again i'm physically itching. Budget DIY project is an understatement really, I have done EVERYTHING myself including the full respray. I've had to learn a lot of new skills and even re-do things twice but the experience has been fantastic. I just hope it pays off when I finally get to drive the bloody thing again. Its gonna take a while to publish a build thread thats for sure.

I'll see your 2007, and raise you 2006 ;)
Mine was rebuilt in 2002/2003, came out occasionally in the summers till 2006, and has been in storage ever since. Washed maybe once every couple of years and that's about it.
However, yesterday it was collected by some friends who are prepping it for shipping to Florida! My old girl is coming to join me as the car is now 25 years old and legal for the US.
Best still, they put a new battery on her yesterday and she didn't even turnover once to start! Which I'm told just about stunned everyone watching.

I put more miles into my car in the drive home from buying it than most of you put in all year.
-
Drive mine every day cos its a piece of s..t.
And it's on the Isle of Wight which is perfect for one of these as long it hasn't got silly low coil overs.
-
How come none of you drive your mk2's year round?
.
Because I cycle to work and have a shed load of other cars!!

That's an easy one. Stock springs and dampers with 15" RA's and 185-55 tyres. It's the only way.

comfortable suspension air ride and wheel tyre combination more of a stretch :lipsrsealed:
Fixed.
-
You know me too well Lewy
-
Any suspension tyre combo will be comfortable whilst its stuck in the garage being treated like a Ferrari.

My MOT is up next month, ive done 450 mile since last year, which according to this thread is quite alot actually ... took it out today first time since the rear end overhaul and front suspension, and it had a funny knocking noise, fixed that when i realised some of the wheel bolts weren't completely tight
-
220 miles this weekend  including a trip or two on a mk3
-

Yeah that's where I saw it, near the shop. I live on the pan Bronx aswell.
To be fair my window regulator broke and I couldn't do up my window all weekend and nothing happened to it with it left open slightly.

I've never had anything happen either, apart from a crazy ex on a rampage.
You the 5 door grey one? See it up the shop every now and again..
-
Yeah that's mine. Bit battered but she's abf.
I put the abf in on the road outside my house on pan
