hi just joined great site i have just purchased a mk4 1.8t gti with 126,000 miles on the clock service records show no cam or water pump change wouid the existing cam belt have lasted that long ?
-
They can last that long.. although it -should- have been done at the 60k service. Even if it was, I'd get it done again .. at 120,000 miles a car should be on it's 3rd cambelt
-
Had my cam belt and water pump done together at 60k with a few other bits and set me back £500, but it's got to be done.
-
I have spoke to a few dealers regarding this, should be inspected at 60K then every 10-20k after that (think its 10) and unless it needs it doesn't have to be changed until 120k when it should deffinately be changed regardless.
Although I think alot of people like to change it regardless at 60k the same way some people change their oil every 5k

thanks guys found a vw garage that said he will do it for 320 thats cam belt and water pump gonna pick the car up sat and get it done mon

Thats cheap :undecided:

make sure they change the tensioner and idler pulley too!!!! would be an arse to get all the bits done and then one of them fail and then youd have mucho damamge and more mucho exspence... belive me ive done it.....
