I'm having some difficulty in finding information about bike carriers/racks for a Mk6 GTi, because of the rear spoiler normal bike rack companies don't make one, has anyone bought or have any knowledge of roof carriers or rear bike racks for the golf mk6 GTi ? ta

I have got one roof bars and bike carrier they are vw's own go on there website and you will find them and if you want a comparison Thule do the same sort of thing

got a thule set up for my altea (works on the golf too with different rubber feet)
its for a carbon bike so front wheel comes off and there is a clamp for the front fork
i bought a seperate thule wheel carrier for the removed front wheel to go on the roof
its a great piece of kit. can get 2 bikes and a top box on
funny enough i just fitted it tonight as im going away with the bike at the weekend!

I use a Saris Bones rear mounted bike rack on my mk6, which fits perfectly and is very stable even with 3 bikes on it. No need to remove wheels.
The rack is highly adjustable and has 2 sets of rubber feet which sit on the rear bumper and the back windscreen. It also attaches via straps and hooks in 3 places - top of spoiler; sides of hatch and where boot closes. The only downside I've found is the rubber feet leave marks on the bumper but these should polish out. Not cheap, approx £120 - £140, but good. Halfords do them and bike shops and widely available online.

VW roof bars and VW bike carrier, got the bars on the eBay for £19.99 for Genuine ones with key and manual, they are the same as the mk5 ones too. i.e. mk5 and mk6 are the same bars.
-
mine are genuine SEAT one made by thule
got them new on ebay for £66
cycle carrier was £90 and wheel carrier £30
all of it has locks though and it the round alloy type not the square one
it fits the golf too.
not sure if the genuine vw one is thule or not but would guess it probably is

I used to use the saris bones but found it difficult with getting the dog in and out of the boot, I then did a lot of research and decided on some whispbars which look good but cost about £190, I then bought a couple of thule 591s, very happy with the look and it has only marginally affected my mpg!

I've gone down the (removable) tow bar route. You don't know it's there when stored and the panel is clipped in.
We have a 4-bike Thule rack that fastens onto this - fantastic piece of kit, expensive but worth every penny - even has LED lights to keep up appearances with the Golf !!

I was about to ask the question about Mk5 roof bars etc fitting as I have a set that I was going to sell but looks like I will keep them now if they still fit the Mk6

Same roof, I bought mine for the mk5 GT TDI 5dr and they fit my mk6 GTD fine.

Excellent! The money I will save on a new bike rack and carriers can go towards other goodies!
