what do i need to complete this conversion other than a f'ing dashboard before anyone says that!

Sorry cuz I dont have answer for ur question but I just want to add one more question.
Will I need to make alot of modifications for MK3 or Corrado dash to fit into MK2????
And if there are modification I really want to know what are they?

its relatively easy if you have a later spec golf. that way the wiring is all the same, bar two or three wires. what u need to get the best fit and make life easier is:
The whole dash,
the metal support which runs from one side of the car to the other,
the center consol,
fibreglass,
longer heater cables,
clocks,
steering wheel support from a mk3.(bolts onto metal frame.)
and lots of patience.
You have to cut a lot of plastic away from the rear of the dash, and a bit from either side, also you will have to figure out a way to make the instrument panel fit around the existing steering column, unless you do the cross frame as mentioned above, cut the cross frame down and weld it in and youll find it really easy.
If you do decide to go with it, (and it is worth it) then i'll source out the wiring diagrams for you, if youve got a pre 90 spec then i can definatly help u with that but the post 90 spec is easy.
One point to note is that the heater controls will work backwards.

There are two bolts that hold the dash in place on the firewall. Would you have to make new holes for the MK3 dash?

when i did mine the two bolts at the top of the dash had to be cut off as they caught. There is a little bit of trimming in the middle and thats what comes off.
However if you use the cross frame it may be the case that the two bolts line up. Its secure without them though so i shouldnt worry.
when i get mine back from the body shop i'll post some pics of what the dash looks like, unfortunatly i didnt take any pics when i was doing it, but its all trial and error

Just fitted a mk dash to my mk 2, its not that hard only took me a few hours once i had worked out how much to trim it down by. My only prob is the wirind on the clocks!

Did you have any heating problems from the mk3 vents? If i did this swap, what dials would i need? I have a MK2 8v Gti, J reg.

right guys. Just bought a mk3 dash for ?45. Sounded reasonable enough. Do I need to weld anything in or just trim it down and bolt it in?

Corrado dash is in took a week end but not finished jet drivable thou
Clocks not in yet but ill be soon
Adjust able steering colum in makes it feel even lower sweet!!!
