Title: Brake bleeding problems
Post by: cobalt6700 on 24 April 2013, 08:50
Hi guys,

Have been bleeding my brakes up after removing and refitting my calipers, and seem to be having some issues.

I've read up on how they can be a bugger to bleed, but I've not introduced any air at the master cylinder end. The pedal seems very hard when bleeding, and what I can only describe as lumpy. When pumping the pedal to push fluid through, it creaks and squeaks.

Now I've bled all corners 3 times, and now have no air coming through. The pedal is sort of there, but you can slowly get it too the floor. If you start the car up it goes straight to the floor.

From my experience this points to the master cylinder being faulty, what do you guys think?

Cheers

Mine did this when I tried bleeding them, I thought I had buggered them,

turns out I needed to bleed the 2 nipples on the master cylinder its self.

Turns out my master cylinder was buggered.

After bleeding the nipples, and doing an ABS bleed just incase, still same problem.

New master in and bled, pedals back to spot on.

Bloody VW master cylinders. 2nd one I've had do that :(

You can damage the seals by pumping on the pedal to bleed. Ideally use a vacuum bleeder.

Yeah, will be investing in a pressure/vaccum bleeder, had enough of changing master cylinders!
