Title: CAM CHAIN ?
Post by: Jumbojim on 23 April 2013, 09:52
Gentlemen

I have heard that some GTI 147KW engines from 2008 onwards have a cam chain fitted instead of the short life tooth belt.
Could this really be true, and could my BWA coded engine be one of them?

Most VW engines were fitted with a chain between cams.

i can also verify that all mk5 have cam chains my is currently been done due to the dreaded diesel knocking from the engine

You mean a timing chain instead of a timing belt. Yes, the late mk5 gti's have a tsi engine which uses a chain.

yes it will have a belt but will also have a chain that drives the inlet cam on top of the engine it is normal the the adjuster unit that is at fault

.....yeag i know that, had it replaced on my 05 reg GTI. I think in post one he was trying to make the point that the ''main cam drive'' was by chain & not belt.
