Title: what is this hiding under the wheel?
Post by: paultownsend on 22 April 2013, 21:32
i was changing my front discs/pads yesterday and found this under the passenger side wheel. there is not one on the drivers side

(http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w180/paultownsend/oo_zpse1102f55.jpg) (http://s176.photobucket.com/user/paultownsend/media/oo_zpse1102f55.jpg.html)

it comes from the the ABS sensor. but doesnt seem to do anything. theres a connector block, then somw taped up wire that is attached to the strut with a zip tie. Abs seems to work fine through VCDS

any idea chaps?

Isn't that the brake pad sensor?

If it is the brake pad sensor then someone has done what I want to do. Short it out so the light isn't always on...Well, it could be that.

If it is the ABS then it maybe faulty and that is their effort of earthing it?

Being an AGU I believe it doesn't have sensors. Wel, the other 3 wheels don't have one?

Brake pad sensor, connections soldered together so the light doesn't come on.

Cheap fix if the wire breaks.

Commonly done. :)

It's weird as the other 3 wheels have nothing

The brake pad sensor is only on one of the fronts

Ah that's it then! It's weird what people do for a cheap fix. Old pads didn't have a wire in so it must have been for that reason.

Do you reckon the wire tied up is from the old brake pad?

Yep, you'll get a new one with new pads :)

Sweet.

Must admit. When the wheels spin it makes a strange springy twangy noise. Especially highlighted in the snow?
