Dont understand why low mileage should make so much money.
I mean the body is still 15+ years old.
Little use means belts will perish. Had the cambelt been changed?
Personally I would rather buy a well maintained high mileage car.

Suspension and wheels? Still have standard suspension and wheels in my shed. Got the cam in my garage covered in grease for when it goes back in.
Can easily put it to standard in a day if I wanted.
On the low/high mile I would recommend buying a low mile old car as long as its got good history.
Mine had 8 VW service stamps in the book and only done 25,000 at the time. And kept in a garage. I've put 10,000 on it and its never not once let me down.
But no history then good chance it's sat for many years and belts etc could well perish

Ehh, Look at the speedo picture, and then read the description. The mileage does not match as in picture.
35,172 as in picture
Item specifics: 35,500
Description: 35,250
The seller, seriously needs to go back to school
-
Old pictures and drive it daily, so when buyer picks it up it might be on 35,500.

My Low mileage S3 engine which had been stood for a few years developed a leak on the Crank seal which was/is supposed to be a life time seal.. right t**t to change. but we did it
Its believed that the reason for its fail was down to the engine been out of use for so long then soon as heat been put back into it, jobs f**ked basically
All the seals on it have now been changed as we have re built the whole engine when we did the Forged internals and bigger turbo upgrade
My take on it is this, if the car is driven frequently (even low miles) i don't see a problem with low mle cars, its just when they dont turn a wheel for a given amount of time
As for your car tweed, i l;ike what you have done with it (id have done same as you) and yeah u could return to standard but its now been messed about with. i think some of its originality has now been lost forever. but thats just my opinion.
That said, it would take somebody with a good knowledge to know though if you did return to standard

I didn't want to touch it when I first got it and do feel I've ruined it sometimes, but ill never sell it so may as well do what I want
-
Agreed

I totally understand why it was worth that. If it has been garaged and only covered 35k the likelihood is that the dreaded rust won't have set in. I would have bought it myself if I had seen the link earlier.
I paid £1500 2 years ago for a totally standard 8V GTi with 49k on the clock with a cambelt service just done and it hasn't missed a beat since, all that has been spent on it is £100 for a full CAT back stainless exhaust (a very good deal, I was lucky on Fleabay) and I've added a full black leather colour concept interior (which is lovely). The car has been on the ramp and there is almost zero corrosion as it had been garaged for the last 10 years ruinning about 1,500 miles a year.
Each to his own but this was £1,500 well spent, I would buy based on lack of rust, everything else minor can be sorted relatively easily.
It's not exactly big money

On the other side of the scale
i paid £600 for my GTI 5 years ago, No rust No history, just aload of muck, dints and a bag of 23 crack deals found inside
it never once let me down, was super reliable.
now its been fully rebuilt from chassis up with a new heart, paint and just about everything else apart from the chassis and shell... Now valued at 10k on the insurance. (a far cry from the £600 it was originally insured for)
The moral of the story is, you just never know what you gonna get, high miles, low miles, looked after or not.. oh and that you can actually polish a turd
-
With over £10,000 you could polish any old sh!t

On a car with super low miles I'd like to know how its been kept ect.
My 16v has been garaged all its life and I have meticulously serviced it (even though ive done 4k in six years).
Its far from standard but same as Tweed, I arn't planning on selling it anytime soon.
But surprise suprise my engine has'nt started leaking like a sieve..........
