Whats a p&P and is there a difference between mapping and chipping?

p&p is port and polish the is to do witjh opening up the inlet and zorst chambers in the head to maximise gas flow.... and chipping is done normally because the standard chip cant be mapped to incourage greater performance as they tend to be set more for economy..

so roughly how much money am i setting aside? and one other thing, when you change the mainfold, it is necessary that you fit a sports cat and run a whole system all the way through, or can i get away with the mainfold and a back box?

tbh the best thing to do would be the cam and chip and zorst... the port work can be done later to save a bit of money.. when fitting the manifold i would de-cat and have a straight pipe put in and swap for mot! then go with no boxes and just a decent rear box, this will give u the greatest flow.

its not gonna be cheap m8 its going to be 500quid + u could easily get a 2.0l 16v from a scrappy for this.. unless u can find the parts second hand.

you want best bang per buck, then my advice would be to cut your losses straight away and go back to a mk2 but get a 16v, anything does go wrong its cheaper to fix and they are a lot more fun for little cash.

no offence but if i was you i'd sell on the 8 valve and either buy a 16v or better still a vr6 if you still want a mk3, or go back to a mk2 like fish&chip boy said! for the amount of extra power you'd get out of an 8 valve you might as well put the extra money it'd cost towards a vr6.

its just a power to weight thing that makes the mk3 slow. unfortunately they are heavy old cars.....
