Title: Newbie, Old man...
Post by: mark@vorny.co.uk on 20 April 2013, 20:43
Hi folks,

It's took me a while to join up, but thought it about time.

First confession, it's not my car, but the wife's. It's a Mk6 GTi, which replaced a Mk5 which she had from new and is now enjoying a pampered life with her 24 year old nephew. I preferred the Mk5 personally, thought it was just the complete car for every occasion.

I had the Mk5 mapped and had a 3" stainless system put on it for a valentine's gift for her. Didn't go down too well. The Mk6 has been mapped, but I have been forbidden from putting an exhaust on it...

I am active as a moderator on a couple of BMW forums, bizarre as I haven't had one for a while.

Looking forward to becoming active and learning loads.

I will now bore you with some pictures...

The Mk5 just before it left us

Ha, I'll tell her. In fairness she needed little persuasion as she had always wanted a GTi since the Mk1's, just took her a few years to get around to it.

She even lets me use them for long journeys to keep the miles off my car...

Hey pal, you both have good taste
Please dub out the reg mark for obvious reasons.....also the back end seems to be sitting a little high, unless its parked on a slope ?

Different plate on it now, but thanks for the nod.

The slope on the drive at that point makes the OSR sit high.

Thank you. Like the Glendale's, an option box mulled over and stupidly wasn't ticked. Eyeing up some BBS CH at the moment !

Hi, tell her the exhaust will last the life of the car if she lets you put a SS system on it! :afro:

He is indeed. He only brings it out at weekends and when it's not raining. He uses his van (plumber) the rest of the time. He wants to keep it looking well. Fair play to him.

It was a sad time seeing it go, I had over time got a cracking finish on it. I think his mates are quite envious as they seem to have Seat's mostly and took ages to find cared for examples. There was a file of bills to go with it and he is keeping that going.

I wish I had a Golf GTi at 24. I had to make do with an Orion 1.4L company car
