thought you might be interested to hear what was wrong with my car. (see post called 'knock sensor?') my friend checked the compression again and noticed that two of the cylinders were intermittently up and down in compression - high high low high low etc.. then did engine flush and oil change plus fuel additives to help loosen the sticky valves. and then also changed the airflow meter together with the standard air filter etc (i had a bolt on k&n before). also changed the brain out for the hell of it.
so the thing that seems to be happening was the k&N was a bit old and crappy and sucking in dust and poo into the engine which was making the valves stick, and become intermittently down on compression.and also the dust etc dirtying up the afm sensors,. which was why it ran fine for a while after that was all taken off and cleaned along with everything else. lesson to be learnt... do one thing at a time!
thanks everybody for all your suggestions and help along the way.
you were right, we did get there in the end. but big thanks to my friend for doing all the work

thanks peeps
now finally i can enjoy my car...and stop pestering people about it.
And the guy i got the parts from said i had a rare and saught after interior!
just out of interest... would you beleive the difference an engine oil flush would make to the compression figures. re-tested after the flush and the compression was up to 12and a half (i think it was) across all four and consistant. so for the flush or not to flush argument id say get the poo outathere and flush away!

Welcome to the sh!t flushing club GTIrl!!!! ;)

what sort of interior is it then? im intreuiged!!!

it looks pretty ordinary to me..its grey material with red stripes. doesnt sound that special! but he said he just sold a knackered interior like it for 125 quid or something. and mine is in pretty good nick. so atleast i know if the car rusts away to a little pile, i can sell the interior! um, unless he was only blowing smoke up my tailpipe!?

About the Kubelwagen Type 82
The Kubelwagen was originally designed as a civilian vehicle, but after German militaristic expansion and mobilization in the late 1930's plans were soon made for a military version. After the poor performance of the Kubelwagen Type 62, an improved model designated Type 82 went into mass production in 1940. The Kubelwagen Type 82 featured a trustworthy 4-cylinder, horizontally opposed, air-cooled engine, capable of 23.5hp at 3000rpm and provided a top speed of 80km/h. Over 50,000 Kubelwagens were produced by the war's end. From the searing heat of the North African Front to the blistering cold of the Russian Front, the Kubelwagen Type 82 was used for reconnaissance and communications purposes.

i wouldn't have said rare but they are very nice. the latest models had these, they did them in blue and all grey too. nice seats, if the car does go up the spout you'll be able to sell them on. interior prices are weird, i've seen sets go for a tenner and other sets go for stupid money. in fact i sold two identical interiors, 8v grey/red check, one set went for £20 the other went for £100. bizarre.....
