Is there any difference between the gti rear beams over the mk3 period????

Gti is narrower. I wanted to fit a drum brake beam thinking it would be narrow but they are wider.

This is true. Have seen measurement data. To enable the lesser models with narrower wheels to fill the arches i guess.

How much difference is there as you'd be able to lose the need for as much spacing out on the rear wheels then,  if any surely?

The differnce is 18mm overall. 9mm per side but is dependant on year of vehicle and model.
