Title: Tyres on 17's
Post by: barelyhuman on 15 April 2013, 22:20
Hi guys, my new Golf Gti is currently running 205 40 17's which were fitted by the previous owner, and it tends to wander all over the place, and when its wet it aqua planes something chronic  ! had the tracking checked and all was fine, tyres are fairly good, not new by any means but not illegal either! Wondering if changing to 45 profiles may make any difference or improvement! Any advice gladly received!

Thanks

Jase

You need to stay with 205/40's to keep the gearing correct, get the tracking checked but 17's on a mk3 do tend to mean tramlining etc.

cheers wayne....tramlining i guess i will get used to....the aquaplaning was a proper cheek clenching moment, but to be fair there was a shed load of surface water on the roads, may look at new set of 205/40's and change the lot, see if that makes any difference. Thanks anyways mate :)

Dont mix and match! specially not with budgets. Keep atleast the front axle the same tyres both sides, front to rear is ok but not different on all four corners. I run 195/40 on 7.5 +8.5's the front can pull a bit, although the tramlining got considerably less when i cut the bumpstops down.
Dont skimp on the only thing thats connecting you to the road.

They are a better tyre.

What size?

Thought rainsports and toyos were about the same price?
