Well 5months of running the gtd it has now been sold, just could'nt connect with this car & for a car worth over £25000 the engine was the biggest letdown.Anyway to cheer myself up I bought another gt sport 170 tdi & pick it up next week.

A mk5? GT TDI 170?
-
Oh dear such a shame, good luck with the new one...
Can't fault mine tho...

Yeh mk5,had one before for over 3 years and regret selling it.

Not convinced I would have done that, did you have issues with the GTD. I used to have a 140 GT TDI mk5 and had driven the 170. But I love my mk6 GTD so much more.

The thing I like about turbo diesel's is no power then a big thud of torque as with a gt sport. The problem with the gtd is the torques spread right round the rev range,it's trying to much to be a petrol engine & if I wanted a petrol golf I would have bought a gti.just my opinion.

Could you not have just got it mapped how you wanted it?
-
I had a MK5 GT Sport 170 prior to my Leon FR (same as a GTD with different badge) and agree with the OP that I much preferred the drive of my MK5, was a great car.

I came from a powerful petrol car to my gtd and after about 6 days it was either map it or change it!
I kept getting caught in the wrong gear and sometimes it just felt flat.
After a simple remap I love it and wouldn't change back to my old petrol.
