Title: VW birth certificate?
Post by: Wazzzer on 14 April 2013, 18:26
Just read something on another forum saying that if you get in contact with VW in Wolfsberg with your car details they will issue you with a birth certificate for it?

Any truth in this or just complete bullsh!t?

"Because of data protection we are not allowed to inform you about the original engine-number. However, we are able to proof if the engine number you will give us corresponds to the chassis number of your vehicle."

LOL, clearly VW know they have designed engines to be perfectly interchangeable from the very first models using OEM parts.

It seems like a rip off to me

What else is their to know, other than whats on the V5 and service book / chassis number on car etc?

Not sure I can see the point to this.

Probably of most use to confirm you have a genuine, say, Edition One.

This... proves provenance of a car, I dont suspect they will be selling/issuing many to Mk3 owners anyway   though a great item to have in the SH of old Aircooled classics etc
50 euros represents good value for money in my opinion, it just that its not for everyone.

Yeah I understand that.

Would be a heartbreaker to find out you didn't have a genuine article wouldn't it..

Nice idea but don't think it's value for money, printing off a piece of paper and sticking it in the post for 50 euro! Some people must have money to burn!
