I tried this, this evening.

It didn't turn out exactly as I'd wanted...

It was pretty cold going in there to fish them out too.

Was the water moving a little bit to fast? Not enough glow sticks?

Top one is good, but if you used a flash to light up the arch it'd be a cracker!

The water wasn't moving fast enough so I couldn't get them to float properly.

I bought 50 glow sticks and it looked best with about 10.

I actually used two speedlites on the arch, but I had to use it super low because otherwise they overpowered the glow sticks.  That's one of the reasons the water isn't as milky as I'd liked.

The first location I tried, the water was flowing perfectly and the shot was way more interesting but there was a lamppost making it too bright to see the glowsticks.  I might try again, but put a reflector up by the lamp to get rid of the light.

The top one is the best.

You could do a composite. Shoot once for the glow sticks, then shoot again with your speedlites set to expose the arch.

Did you fish the glowsticks out of the water afterwards? Otherwise it's quite a bit of non-biodegradable waste.

Of course.

It was surprisingly warm in the water.

I may give it another go, but I'm not so great at photoshop. It could be good practice though I suppose.
