Title: Finally my Car's gone into the garage for a proper rolling road tune
Post by: monzablue16v on 03 August 2005, 10:10
Well

I've  bitten the bullet and decided to hand Bessie over to a mechanic who knows what he's doing!
He has the KJet diagnositc thingys and a big sun rolling road :) I'm hoping I'll get her back running like a stormer and find out why she was running so rich and stalling and stuff.
I'll post up the problems and solutions and maybe the dyno sheets, I've asked for 1 before and 1 after so hopefully I'll be able to see a difference in the 2 if not I'm selling up!!!! should be back around lunchtime hopefully! :)

Cool, should come out running sweet. I took my AX GT on the RR. Was impressed with the figures. 92.5 BHP, 134lbsft Toruqe @ 4,500

Ãƒâ€šÃ‚ Should'nt be too hard to beat that in the Golf. Beat the BHP already ;)

Holy sh!te!!!!

Anyway the results :D

Dyno printer wasn't working today so no maps yet but going back in 2 weeks for a retest so should get one then

On arrival he checked the gasses and made sure that the engine was fit to go on the rollers, which it was apparently and

She first produced a grand total of 93 BHP with many flat spots    Only just Logie ;)

And then!!!

Set the timing up properly stopped it pinking (don't need to do my tappets!!), checked the timing advance which it wasn't doing, "freed" up the Airflow Meter, checked all the electrical points and CSV, WUR, ISV etc and then banged it back on the rollers for round 2.

Second time 149 BHP  get in!! :D :D :D

So 56 BHP for £50 I'm a happy lad now! finally got the ledgendary power and performance I was expecting! And I'm not selling it anymore get off I'll fight u for it!

So, when it went in I'd had enough :( now I can't get enough! :) I took it for a long drive after picking it up and it's loads better but I can't bloody stop quick enough. So I need to upgrade my brakes big time! 239mm brakes and 149 BHP do not go together!!!!!

Excellent stuff :D

I take it you've got an early 16v or had an engine conversion then?

It still went with 93 bhp but I knew something wasn't right I just couldn't put my finger on what it was. Pretty standard engine-wise bar a 4-1 stainless manifold and s/s exhaust, Polished and ported head, Drilled airbox, K&N Air filter, Polished throttlebody and thats it dude so well impressed.

Post by: monzablue16v on 04 August 2005, 10:27
Allsorts of things!! mainly in the way it was set up it was running very rich, pinking, timing not advancing, timing set wrong, reset ECU and checked fuel pressure etc seems to have done shedloads and the difference is amazing before it was quick, now it's fappin mental gets to about 3 grand and goes crazy pulls llike a train and goes like a rocket!!!  as feck!!

far canal ! What a difference that must make.

Monza, where in Wakey is this guy ? I'm not going to get any of those gains on my cabby but it would be nice if it could be checked out and tweeked slightly ! PM the address and number if you will, it might be worth having a quick drive down the M1 to see the guy.

I guess there is only so much you can do yourself, getting set up on a rolling road is best way of sorting it!

i have just rang up my local (only) rolling road garage - £48 + VAT for an hour

I am going to take it there next month, but i want to be prepard on what everyhting should be set at, advance timing etc, can anyone tell me what all the settings should be on a kr 16V?

Post by: monzablue16v on 04 August 2005, 14:14
They should know these things really mate!! I don't know what the settings are but generally they'll just tune it until they get it right hopefully anyway! ;) surer someone will have a more helpful answer but I just gave him my keys and said here it's doing my head in fix it will u please!!!

wow thats quality!! the only thing i'd say, deefa, is take it to someone who knows a 16v it may cost you more but if the rolling road has no specific knowledge he might not help things at all.

you want more power?! your cab wastes (certain) 16 valves as it is!!!!!!

Well seen as so many people want it I'll post it up if that's ok.
I wouldn't normally as I don't want any, I went to that garage you reccomended and he only got 2bhp out of mine type comments!!!! and I don't want to annoy the guy. Remember mine was FUBAR and he did a good job I can only go on that, word of mouth and the fact the guy (Tony) is sound. Don't upset him though otherwise I won't get mine done again!!!!

Been there!

Well i can't complain at the moment, after buying that gunston gastester and i have set the C0 to 2% - car seems good all the way throught the rev ranges. only slight problems and these maybe just the age of the car, is that the first 5 secs on start up the revs dip to around 700 rpm (nothing major i know) :)

Anotherr thing is that after 3k the revs should really start to move yes? well mine is more constant through out, so maybe this can be sorted at the RR

Post by: monzablue16v on 05 August 2005, 09:13
My revs climb to about 1400 when cold and it revs smoothly all the way through but when it gets to 3 it starts really climbing and pulls through to 7.5k :D

   Certain being the key word there !  Slammed has since had it tuned so I think he'll spank me next time.

Just for the record though, what Monza has actually proved is that his car was not running right as he suspected, the 145bhp figure is only 6 above what it should be as standard (139bhp). I suppose what I'm trying to say is that Monza is right in the fact that if your 16v is running well and has a slight tweek then you may only see a couple of bhp gains.  :undecided:

Ahem 149 BHP 10 more than factory and 56 more than before a tune ;)
and it goes oh soooo soooo so much better than b4!!!

i thought you would get more than 10bhp from that lot :undecided: stealth can get that from a standard valver

Using the WUR mod remember, although they are not brilliantly stable.
Title: Re: Finally my Car's gone into the garage for a proper rolling road tune
Post by: VeeDubGTI16v on 05 August 2005, 15:36
what arent stable? does the wur mod  need constant fiddling like carbs or something?
Title: Re: Finally my Car's gone into the garage for a proper rolling road tune
Post by: Agreeable Slick on 05 August 2005, 15:38
The WUR mod, its a fueling modification to the system, sometimes they can be good for ages, others you will get 5 mins down the road and all hell will break loose. Nice idea but if i wanted to change fueling i would do it properly.

At the end of the day though, thats probably the best £50 you've spent on your 16v eh :)

Damn right best £50 definitley and so far 89 miles and I'm not on 3/4 tank yet and I've been flying everywhere!!! compared to 40 before driving like a granny!

I have heard many things about the WUR mod and fuelling problems so didn't want that touching. The engine was rebuilt by AudiGolfHitz not been able to find anymore info on the company? but that is what I was sold it as.
