I'm going to have my old gearbox rebuilt soon, was thinking of changing the clutch too.
any advise on which to buy? i'm seeing stage 1 clutch, Is there a point in having a stage 1?
Thanx

Just fit a standard Sachs or Luk kit, no real need for an uprated kit unless your running big power.

What is a stage 1?
What's the difference between standard and stage 1?
How many stages is there?
Don't understand this stage bollox
Get a good OEM clutch
If you running big bhp then look into a strong clutch but standard power means standard clutch

8v's are cheaper then 16v's Sachs clutches

I think the stage thing is all about the material they use for the friction lining on the clitch which means it has more bite and dosent loose grip as much when running more power eg: clutch slip more advance clutches are those paddle ones which isnt really recommended for road use

sharki, my brother just bought a clutch for his skoda octavia 1.9 tdi from gsf, it came in a LUK box, but on the clutch itself, it's stamped Sachs? Weird.

Might be a case of order two parts, one cheap shat and one expensive decent thing. Swap boxes and return the expensive box and cheao parts

Some manufacturers share parts. Like my mate bizzle (on here) has a autoshop and sells quinton hazel clutches and he took one out to show me that it had a luk clutch in it (my dad used to work for QH and he usdd to make the pressure plate (cnc setter/operator) so what QH have done is buy the clutch from luk or sachs and make the pressure plate themselfs (QH)
