Title: thermostat?

afternoon all my temp wasn't reaching 90 so ive replaced cts .niw it is getting to 70then when driving. it drops down to about 50ish till stillin traffic then goes back to 90 .now will this get better in time or is thermostat knacked thanks

I know the "sports" thermostats run a lower temp but not that much!!

Is this a new or second hand part

Take what back? He's replaced the temp sensor, not the thermostat...

It does sound like the thermostat.

as far as i know ,defo sounds like the thermostat,and i dont know a lot lol

The thermostat usually opens at 90 degrees causing coolant to circulate around the system and therefore cooling the engine. It only opens at 90 degrees to allow the engine to warm up to effective operating temperature quickly.

If a thermostat is stuck open (as it sounds like yours is) then coolant is constantly circulating meaning your engine is never getting to the correct temperature unless you are stationary. When the engine is cold the fuelling is adjusted to compensate which is why your mpg will have dropped.

So thermostat is knackered. No problem I'll go get 1 is there a certain 1 for turbo golf?
