I've just looked at the Irish Configurator and they get the option of Carbon Steel Grey, Half leather / Alcantara, and the Heated / Solar Reflect Windscreen.
I know everyone says you can get Carbon in the UK, but what about the other 2x options, the heated screen is something I would take, and it must be approved for RHD cars as per the Irish Market.
Interestingly, there is no winter pack in Ireland and also they get standard holgen lights which look not to have the red stripe at the base?

Id love the heated windscreen, freezes hard here on the coast where i live..
-
Interesting...so it is. Gotta' say, that's the one option I really wish was on our spec list as it pretty much makes it the perfect car for me. Getting a bit fed up of scraping windows in winter when those with Fords just push a button a drive off, lol. I'm going to ask about this tomorrow when I'm at my dealership, although I know Ireland and rest of UK are considered different markets.
-
Yep, from Ireland here and yes, the Irish specs are typically poor! I've had to spec xenons, climate and 18's as optional extras! I've also spec'd the leather/alcantara, ive seen pics and it looks well, like the ED 30 seats. Full leather costs about a grand more!
Carbon grey is an option too.

The Irish do have a raw deal with standard equipment and price (maybe more to do with local taxation than VW shafting the Irish), I think even the Germans get a worse deal with the GTD than the UK. BTW For all the "Carbon Grey" people out there, it is configurable on a GTD/GTI on the VW Germany site so it should definitely be available to everyone unless they do some "exclusive colour" stuff to stop it being available in the UK.
-
I'd be very, very tempted by a GTD with a heated windscreen option. I've had it on a car before and it was brilliant, unlike the rest of the car (Mini Cooper).
-
Interesting...so it is.
How much are these heated windscreens to replace? I'm guessing a big chip/crack could be expensive? :lipsrsealed:
-
Fair bit more expensive I'm sure, but my mate who has a Ford Focus said that he's not aware of any limitations or increased excess on the replacement of a heated windscreen.
Like most of the options it's a nice-to-have, but genuinely useful in winter and for otherwise quick de-misting.

I appreciate that it's been confirmed on a few occasions now that Carbon Steel Grey can definitely be ordered, but wanted to tell you all I got a call from VW UK this evening. A couple of weeks back when it wasn't clear if you could get that colour, I sent them an e-mail to ask.
They responded at the time saying you couldn't get Carbon Steel Grey. However, a very helpful lady called this evening to appologise and say that you definitely could get Carbon Steel and gave me a note of the paint code in case the dealer had any problems. I reckon it's the colour I'm going for on my GTD.
-
Sorry, I meant to say the code was 1K1K.

OK, I just called UK Customer Services, who in turn have just called sales for me. Based on this information:
- Colour MFD is standard on the GTI, optional on the GT spec down
- Heated Front Windscreen for the UK is currently only being considered and may be available some time in the future
-
That's good news on the colour screen, but not so good on the heated windscreen. My partner has had that on her last couple of Minis and its amazing on a frosty morning.
-
The heated screen is a €366 option here in Ireland. I was tempted, especially given the recent cold spell, but I decided in the end I wanted other features that bit more!
I'm fairly sure the colour screen is standard here too, but it's hardly a big deal either way. Certainly wouldn't pay for it.
-
Thanks Gryzor, that's very interesting on the colour screen as that's £135 saved!
-
I just sent VW a message via their web site asking them to add the heated windscreen option. They're more likely to add it if they think there's a demand for it.
-
Usual UK spec goes with additions over the lower spec.
so what do we get over the GTD and GT for GTi?
What do we get in lieu of the Sat Nav on the GT?????

Sorry for beating a dead horse (I updated the yay or nay thread!), but my dealer has confirmed that this is indeed standard on the GTI.

Had a phonecall from my dealer this evening to ask me if I want the park assist after enquiring earlier - I have declined to add it seeing as I get by just fine without it.
There were some other useful few bits of info though. I asked about the colour MFD and he has confirmed that it is standard on the GTD/GTI and was always intended to be, but there is a typo in the pricelist/brochure - this is supposedly the "official line" from VW UK on the whole colour MFD mix-up/misinformation.
He is absolutely sure that all GTI/GTDs will have it but it will still be a cost option for all other Golf model variants (so they will not be getting it as standard for the forseeable). There is supposed to be a new GTI/GTD brochure out this week on VW UK's website - hopefully that will be corrected to confirm colour MFD as standard GTI/GTD equipment.
I also asked if my dad's GTD will be delayed as he ordered DSG and he confirmed that as of now there are no delays associated with supply of DSG gearboxes.
