My gearbox is noisy in reverse and pops out of reverse.
I have the old gearbox in my garage, the diff went on that, so I bought one from scrappy for £50 and it's worked a treat for 2 years.
So I'm thinking of getting the old unit and giving it in for a re-con as once my car steering/suspension/braking side is sorted I don't have to touch that again.
My question is, can I give that gearbox in only to have the diff fixed, reason being my car felt alot more responsive with that old gearbox in for some reason. I don't want to mess about with the gearing.
If so, how much would it be, and does anybody know of any good place in west Yorkshire?
Cheers

Dropping gearbox off on Monday to have diff replaced, also says to the engineer to change the reverse idler as there common to go. £150 for diff and an extra £40 for new reverse idler.
What do you think?

Wow, that sounds really cheap, the cheapest I was quoted was £350 for the same work, others wanted £500.
Where are you getting that done?
