Title: Grrrrrrr....
Post by: hardmonkeys on 06 April 2013, 20:34
So..this is how my weekend has been so far!!

Finish work on Friday with all intention of doing rear discs and pads, give myself a weekend..no probs! Dne one side, slightly sticky piston...overcome that, done! Pads in, new disc on!

Do other side..have problems with another sticky piston, unwind tool slips, and a brake pipe snaps
Ok..so I buy a new caliper today, new brake pipe, brake fluid also.
Finally plumb in the new pipe after a difficulty, excellent I'm thinking! Lets put new caliper on, get the pads in before it gets dark! Should be the easy but now,    hahaha...NO!! Sliders on the carrier not doing there job, and not sliding, attempted to get them moving, pull seal back, grease the bad boys up, put a 15mm spanner on the end, give it a wiggle...SNAP!!! now need a new carrier!!    (or do I?? Please tell me if not)

Attempt to remove carrier...one bolt comes out fine...bottom one seized!!!!! Now it's dark, and I gave up...not before dousing it in WD40 first...

Tomorrow is a new day!!!!

I thought u dont need to remove the carrier on mk4s to remove the rear disc as it just pops out

You don't..but putting the caliper back on the carrier, the sliders were seized, so with the new pads in, the caliper never went on right...plus, with them seized, the pads wear down quicker

you can buy the slider pins seperate i am sure, can you get mole grips on the bit of the pin that broke ?

as for the carrier bolts its an 8mm allen bolt  (i think ) make sure the allen bit is fully seated and get a breaker bar on it.
