Title: Smelly bits!
Post by: dadrathers on 06 April 2013, 13:46
Lately I have had a whiff of the oily/petrolly engine smell inside the cabin. Usually when I come to a stop (at traffic lights for example) after steady mid speed (505-60 mph) motoring.

Has happened even when fan is not on. Any suggestions why and what to do about it - it is a bit phooey.

Cheers.

Check for leaks in the exhaust hold your hand over the tailpipe and while under the car if you hear a hissing noise theres your hole

check the speedo cable at the back of the clocks, it sounds strange and is fairly uncommon but the speedo cable can drag gearbox oil up from the top of the gearbox into the cabin. reason i know is it happened to me and it really did smell horrid.

and yes i thought how the hell can this happen then discovered it can

just get a torch and look up at the back of your clocks its worth checking.
