Car squeals like a pig when you start (1.9SD - 1Y?)
The revs show low until the squeal goes away (guessing due to rev sensor being on the alternator?).
Here is a photo of the pump and its belt. Looks wet around it and I noticed the water level being a bit low...

Ive got a new belt as it looks buggered, whats the likely verdict on the pump? New pump needed? Or just some gasket sealer?
Cheers

new pump, not worth putting sealant there... will not last a day
also put in a new thermostat, worth doing when you replace the pump and it's so much easier with pump out.....
car should not be revving low, the speed sensor is not in the alternator ;)

Yeh its worth doing thermostat getting it all done in one go is alot better my 8v thermostat was a pain in the ass to change had to take the power steering pump off and hang it on the bumper
-
If your changing the pump get some wd on the pulley bolts and crack it loose with the belt still on

Thanks!
I was under the impression that this diesel engine used a sensor on the alternator for RPM ?
Will try and get hold of a pump...
-
sorry did not read it was a diesel.... on your's it does not have a sensor... it's connected to the W+ line on generator.... not come across many mk3 diesels
