I read that it's supposed to be a lot smoother, snick snick
Anyone actually done it and report back with results opposed to internet BS please?
-
yeap
also fitted the mk4 gear shift lever and Audi TT short throw weight
and yeap i also run a MK4 Gearbox thats been rebuilt.
the shift on a normal mk3 now feels f**kked to me
-
Having driven one with the mk4 shifter set up i can certainly agree that the mk3 feels cack in comparison.
-
I have all the bits to do mine now, going to do it next weekend.
-
What parts do you need?
-
^^ +1
A shopping list would be great from someone who's done it, I'm not worried so much about swapping out the box as I have a new FD and will be getting the flywheel skimmed, just after a snickier shift thanks.

You need the mk4 02J shift tower. Not the early type that's similar to a mk3.
You may have to rebuild it if the bearing is loose. You can use the later type of relay lever and a TT short shift if you like. These parts come with newer style Bowden cable clips.

You can modify a mk4 shifter to fit, Or may be easier to fit a polo/Lupo/Ibiza one.
I used mk4 cables and cable bracket with an ibiza cupra shifter. You just need to drill a hole an fit a bolt to the front of the housing to fit it nicely.
The rear bolts up to existing mounts in the tunnel.

Shows mk4 and Ibiza shifter comparison. I used mk4 cables.

superb, thanks very much

I just used the MK4 shifter from a Gti, the box is bigger so the under side of the car needs modification, we had no issues with this but it may be too much for some folks to take on
Tshirts way is easier to do as less modification to the cars shell
Also had to cut quite a bit off the shaft as the gearstick was way too high, the MK4 must mount lower
-
someone should do a how to on this
-
maybe you should read build threads, mine for example
-
have done about 4 times   love the detail in your build
-

cheers dude
as i say its a worthy modification, overlooked in my opinion and transformss the mk3
folk get too hung up on wasting money on tat rather than stuff that will improve the drive
