Hey guys n gals,
Recently brought my now beloved mk3 GTi and it hasn't had a working fuel gauge since i picked her up! At the time the guy i brought just said that there is no fuel in her, so took it that it did in fact work! Thirty quid later and it still reads empty! I understand this is a common fault and could be due to a dirty float (oooer!) Anyone have any hints or tips on how to do check this and clean it???
Thank you in advance!

check the clocks, there is a guide on google that explains how to put them in test mode, if the fuel gauge reacts then it is the float in the tank (you can have a look at it from the access under the rear seats).... if it does not work in test mode then it's the clocks.

I suspect your sender has failed.

is replacing the sender a big job, or something i could tackle on my drive at home! Dont mind getting my hands dirty and hate the thought of paying if i could do it myself!

it sits in the petrol tank.... have a look under the rear bench...
not too complicated, just petrol pump has to come out.
