New Golf goes to the Gadget Show Live 2013
Potential customers get closer look at GTI and experience Park Assist
VW0426-13
Technology fans are turning out in force to get a good look at the New Golf GTI and try the New Golf’s Park Assist at The Gadget Show Live event at the NEC Birmingham this week.
This is the fourth year that we have exhibited at The Gadget Show Live, which is the UK’s largest consumer electronics show and this year runs from 2 to 7 April.
Potential customers and car fans can visit the Volkswagen stand to see the New Golf GTI – the hot hatch’s first public showing in the UK – alongside its GT sibling.
Visitors can also experience the New Golf’s Park Assist technology on a custom-built circuit at the exhibition centre and talk to our product experts on the stand.

Where on earth are these photo's!

Well, tbh i was a little disappointed to find it was the same as the car that appeared at the Geneva motor show, it was a LHD red one with 19" Santiago wheels which i still don't like having seen them in the flesh, for some reason the car doesn't seem to "sit" properly on them :(
The seats are very comfortable and the sponge in them feels softer than my mk6 which is nice and feels better for my build as i have quite wide shoulders, the passenger seat didn't go as low as the drivers seat for some reason, perhaps there is something underneath? The car was in very poor lighting conditions which was a little annoying, i have taken some pictures but tbh there are better pictures online already but i did take a couple of the door and sill lighting which is a nice touch and not too in yer face!
I actually took these with my phone so appologies for how crap they are:

You seem to sit a bit lower in it than the mk6's quite upright feel which gives a more "sporty" feel, the trim pieces in the dash looked darker than i thought from other pictures but that could've been because of the poor lighting.
The DRL's look absolutely fantastic upclose with a very crisp white light and some nice details inside the housing which matches the trim on the dash and the tailights look great too!
The steering wheel feels a little chunkier than mine but i prefer the perforated leather on the 6 compared to the all smooth in the 7.
The GTI seemed to suit the mk7's front end shape better with it's beefy front bumper than other trim levels, talking about the front bumper, this one had the square ADC sensor in it which strangely wasn't too offensive but might be awkward to keep the opening clean.
There is less head room in the back but thats not my problem! >:D
I also noticed that the black trim on the rear window actually continues under the rear spoiler so the spoiler has shiny black plastic underneath, although in some of the pictures from paris and geneva this is not the case and it only has trim either side of the window? I did take a picture with the camera but haven't put those on the laptop yet, that'd be a nightmare to keep looking good!!
It didn't have dynaudio but i wouldn't have been able to hear it anyway as i think it was still in delivery mode so only the lights were working and no sunroof which again was a little disappointing, there was a GT spec car there as well which did have a sunroof and i can see what some people are saying about the blind being a bit flimsy and see through, hopefully the black GTI/D one will be a little better at keeping the light out?
The LED lighting inside the car although nice looking did't cast anywhere near as much light in the cabin as the normal halogen bulbs in the mk6 but i guess thats just something we'll get used to.
Once i've uploaded the photo's to my laptop i'll post a few more but i think i could do with a better camera!

Pics are good jimble keep em coming seat do similar lighting on the doors in the leon
-
Good effort Jim,
was it a 5 door? Do the LED strips continue in the back doors or are they a front only thing?
-
It was a 5 door mate, the strips are only in the front though. :'(

A few more shocking pics! :embarrassed:

Looks epic! Did you turn on the Led fog lights? Time to order mine soon : )

I didn't, i never even thought about it!! Grrrr....... >:(
I wasn't impressed with the red paint but it didn't look like it had been looked after very well, apart from that it looks and feels fantastic imo but will look so much better in white with all the LED accents to make it look crisp!
I'm so much more excited now, the rest of the gagdet show was a bit rubbish tbh, a bit like walking round Currys with a few extra bits n bobs! >:D

Don't worry, if it was anything like Geneva you couldn't have done it, as only the DRLs would come on. I did try.
Got to agree with you about the ADC eye, it's not too bad 'in the flesh'. I was also a bit underwhelmed by the red at Geneva, but your pictures actually make it look better than I remember!
I think that the main difference between our experiences was that at Geneva you could pay with the Radio/Navs and the lighting was quite the opposite, the VW area was as bright as the surface of the sun, which was almost painful and the inside of the cars were as hot as hell, so you got lucky in that respect!
Thanks for the pics.
-
Yeah thanks Jimble, don't worry about the pic quality - they're fine. Just nice to see and hear something from the perspective of an enthusiast and future owner!
My daughter was with me yesterday as I was going through the deal, and she wanted me to get it in red. No way, not negotiable I said, white or nothing! On the way home we stopped by a supermarket, and I happened to see the new CAR magazine have a bright red one on the front cover (great review by the way, although they seem to have been paid to push the performance pack rather a lot!). Anyway, I had to admit to her, it looks good in red, but it just doesn't suit the nature of the car, or me. If it was a GTD with its grey and chrome trim, different story. But, it's a GTI, and with all that red paint, those red accents just get lost. White frames the car nicely, and not only that, it takes abuse from careless washing far better!
Gotta' say though, those LED rear lights are amongst the nicest I've seen :) As for the ADC camera at the front, I do think they could have made it a little bit smaller and less obvious, but it's not "too" bad. Having taken a test drive with it though, it's going to be one of the most used features on my car as I use normal cruise extensively, so not complaining too much!
-
Yeah the ADC is a bit odd, it's actually behind the VW badge on the passat so unless it's not as effective there then i don't know why it has to be so obvious??
I agree about the red in the magazine, looks good!
-
Obvious and very exposed... I did ask and they said it's a thick lens so very resistant, but I didn't expect them to say anything else! I guess time will tell just how robust it is.
Yup, the red does look good...just not as good as the white

I really don't understand why all the photo's are blurred?? I need to have a mess with it.
No flash, it must have been turned off, so the bad light in the arena slows the shutter speed down and then slight hand movements make them blurry. Notice the one of the front corner is not blurry because the headlight is producing lots of light.
-
Apart from the interior ones and the one looking up at the spoiler they all had the flash on, it's only a compact camera so probably just not really ideal for low light conditions?

They look good enough to me Jimble, some interesting details that i haven't seen before. Thanks for taking the time to post, very useful....
Also, thanks for checking out if it had Dynaudio - much appreciated...

Good efforts James, must be getting the 7 GTI/D amongst you's lot excited!!!
And White for the W1N
