Ill try and keep it short.....
ME - Called VW up, can you check when I purchased a MAF sensor from you
VW - it was less than 2 years ago so still under warranty
ME - Ok, do I just bring the unit in?
VW - No we need the car and to test the unit
ME - test it with what, VAGCOM?
VW - Yes
ME - I have tested it with VAGCOM and the MAF doesn't throw up a fault code, but if you unplug the electrical connector the car improves massively (so logic would suggest the MAF sensor is at fault, started to get a bit annoyed by now)
VW - Well if we scan it and there are no faults relating to the MAF, we will charge £65 then VAT
ME - But I have said there are no MAF related fault codes.
VW - Well bring it in and we will scan it
ME - are you not listening to what I am saying, repeated above.
VW - but if it does show a MAF fault we wont charge the £65 and get the part replaced.
ME - banging head against brick wall - I'll call tomorrow
Called another VW and they said bring the unit in and we will send it to VW and they will test it, if they find its faulty they will replace the unit if not they will return it and I can collect it.

Ive been in that same boat mate. i had to take the fully trained head mechanic from leek VW for a test drive to prove it was the maf. I argued and argued with this head mechantic as he was adamant it would throw a code up. they ended up swapping it after i proved it was the maf.

Glue up the OBD port so they have to diagnose it properly.
And being fair, unplugging the MAF does not necessarily mean a MAF fault. Unplugging the MAF forces the car to use a default fuel map (probably based on engine speed and load). If you have VAGCOM you can do a live/logged readout of the MAF voltage/air thoughput, doing a WOT to redline in 2nd or 3rd (3rd is better).

:laugh: gotta love the dealers. I had to explain to one guy in there once what a fookin coolant/expansion tank bottle was.. he kept mentioning washer bottle :angry: :grin:

i dont know if i was wrong but i know reading from another forum that the R32 ARB can be fitted with droplinks etc, VW ipswich flat out refused the idea of it fitting to the mk4 gti when i told them what i wanted to fit it to, called Audi up of all places and they said "yeah thats not a problem, easy job and fast if you have the car in the air..." :huh:

The problem s nowadays is some placea/people have lost what a mechanic job is.they are to reliant on laptops and software. Think they belive if it doesnt have bank this low resistance that it cant be fixed lol
