Title: Aircon removal?
Post by: Scott-R on 04 April 2013, 11:04
Im currently running the AUQ engine and it has aircon on it which i am looking to remove.

Is it as simple as take it all of and order a belt for a non-arcon AUQ engine?

Anybody done this?

I have read some threads on this and people have always said just stick with it how it is

easy mate ive done it.
1, order aux belt for 1.8t with no air con.
2, un-gas air con system
3, untention aux belt and remove
4, undo 2 bolts holding air con compessor
5, remove compressor
6, follow piping and remove (i cut mine)
7, fit new aux belt
8, good to go.

yeah just remove all associated equipment and fit a shorter belt

however in a mk4 I don't see the point cause  the cars a right fat barstool so your not really going to see much of a difference unless you properly track it out weight saving on loads of stuff.

Why would you want to do that? How much weight will you really save?  :undecided:

the air con is one less thing fail and what ive seen they fail quite often. this country is cold enough air con is point-less as long as the windows open.

Just posted a thread about non AC AUX belts.

There is a massive number of non AC belts on ETKA, obviously none AGU/AUM specific.

If anyone has actually removed theirs, what sized belt did you use if you can remember/find out? Mine is an AGU.

Sorry to jack thread, but it is related.

I have done this mod now and I simply called up VW and asked for the non aircon belt.. Fits perfect ha

No hassle at all and I'm only taking it off because I never used it and when I did it went faulty so not going to replace it ha

I've been into the dealers and had a nose through their system, still too many options.

What's the part number for yours fella?
