Title: Rev Counter
Post by: jonesltd on 04 April 2013, 08:53
My GTD is standard and when I rev it and put it flat to the floor it doesnt go past 2500 revs? Is that a factory setting as it doesnt seem to pull like my mk4 tdi 130...some gears are 'fashion' accessory...

Anyone else have this issue?

Are you saying it doesn't rev above 2500rpm when you are driving, or stationary?

If it's when you are driving, it's gone into limp mode. Something is up and the ECU is limiting the power to reduce potential damage. You need to get a code scan to see what faults are stored.

If it's doing it when stationary, I'm pretty sure that's normal. Why would you need high revs when the car is not moving?

As for the performance, it won't "feel" as fast as an old 1.9PD due to it's smoother, more linear power delivery. The old PD gave you a big slug of torque at around 2000rpm, but not much else.

Yeah I meant when the car isnt moving. I was fitting my new stereo and i dont know why but i revved the car and noticed it wouldnt go past a certain point then I panicked LOL but long as its normal then happy days.

Miss the mk4 it doesnt seem to be as pokey or feel the power in 1 hit just seems to be a wet fart in this GTD....got beaten off the mark by my old mk4 :(

That's normal, my old GT 140 mk5 did the same, its to stop you shafting it whilst stationary.

I've noticed when I have VCDS plugged in it won't rev above 2500rpm. Disconnect it and it revs normally stationary.

If it won't rev above 2500rpm while you driving get it scanned with VAG-COM\VCDS for any error code loged in the ecu.

Though I appreciate it may not 'feel' as fast If your getting beaten of the lights by 130 PD Mk4 maybe worth having your GTD scanned to see if there are any issues

Mine is the same - rev limited when stationery to protect the engine

I think this is the same in the GTI/R and is linked to the launch control - optimum revs for a quick start.

Had it scanned and no faults, just I feel that my mk4 1.9 was a lot more responsive in the likes of 3rd gear and pulling away...it seems like the gtd is a little wet fart at times and does pull then decides nagh i wont bother lol.

Mk4 just seems to pull much better in all gears and GTD aint has pulley or aggressive

My old Passat was a V6 TDI. It was remapped by Superchips to around 195bhp, but never "felt" especially quick. My mate had a remapped PD 130 A4. Now that really did "feel" quick in comparison, but late one night with no one about, he couldn't keep up with me in my Passat.

It doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with your GTD. Maybe it's just a sign that you are ready for a remap to liven things up a bit more?
