Title: New member looking for advice
Post by: mattrix on 02 April 2013, 10:35
Hey, just joined the site today and already have a question.

I have a Mk1 golf GTI cab stored in a garage which has been untouched for about 15 years and was finally going to get around to getting her back on the road.  Obviously after sitting for so long fluids and filters and what not will need to be changed before trying to turn her over but can anyone give me any advice on what else i should take a look at before doing so.

Thanks

fluid and filter deffo, but you will probably have perished hoses and the clutch might be kaput, other than that id say turn her over, oh and some fresh petrol, if you have any in the car now it needs draining id say.

Yeah i was planning on draining the tank of any old fuel although thinking about it now being an 86 not actually sure if it runs on unleaded or the old 4*.  So i guess its worth changing plugs to.

Have a check of the belts as well to make sure they're not perished.

turn engine over by hand before you crank it. drop of oil in the bores.

I would put a splash of diesel in the bores ,its very searching and will help free up any stuck piston rings
