Hi all. Just a quick question please.
I notice from the new price list that that GTi / GTD can be specified with a Dynaudio sound package for £520. As I understand it, it keeps the same number of speakers (8-off) but upgrades them and adds an amp.
Also available is the VW Plug and play sound system which I understand keeps the originally fitted speakers, but adds an amp / DSP unit but also a sub which fits in the spare wheel in the boot.
Having had Dynaudio in my current Scirocco, whilst it sounds decent enough, I always thought it was missing the low bass response. I recently test drove the new Audi A3 Sportback one with the Audi Sound System (£250) and one will the full blown B&O system (at a hefty £750) but both sounded incredible, with massive amounts of thumping bass, but the rest of the tones kept nicely under control (obviously better with the B&O System). interestingly, both systems utilise the spare wheel sub in the boot.
So I was wondering, as I really like my music, do you think the P&P system be a better bet than the Dynaudio as they are only £20 difference between them ?
-
Had the same dilema, and have Dynaudio on the mk6.
Went for Dynaudio option in the end, as from my understanding it comes with a sub too in the spare wheel and also upgrades the existing speakers.
The mk6 Dynaudio misses bass.

I think if the Dynaudio option does come with a sub, it's a no brainer, but according to the VW price list (which by the way is famous for being very inaccurate), it actually just says -
"Including 10 channel digital amplifier, 400 watt output and 8 speakers"
So that would suggest to me, no sub as 8 speakers is standard Golf fare ?
-
Quick Google, as I know I had seen pictures somewhere.
Post 10, here not in English but shows the speakers and Sub in boot.

Great find Dave.
Only worry I have is that with the recent VW UK debacle over the folding mirrors, LED DRLS with Xenon's, and Memory functions for Electric Seats, I just have a worry that VW UK will just state at some point "not for UK spec" or something ?
Dealer knows nothing as I have already asked !
-
I didn't know there was an issue over folding mirrors too?
Dave
-
Yes, wasn't it something like the first 300 or 400 GT's to enter the UK which were supposed to have folding mirrors as part of their standard kit, VW admitted they forgot to fit them at the factory. Certainly the GT I tested back in January at the dealers didn't have them.
Not really an auspicious start in the UK for the poor old Golf 7

So, presumably as the Dynaudio Excite subwoofer is designed to fit in the spare wheel well, you don't get a proprer (space saver) spare wheel if you spec Dynaudio, and you'd get one of those puncture repair / sealant kits instead. Assume that would also be the case if you went for the 'plug and play' dealer fit sound system upgrade too, which fits in the spare wheel well.

i listened to a programme a few months back and it was about breakdowns that a fair few could be avoided if spare wheels were fitted and a chap came on from vw stating that they were one of the few manufacturers to fit spares as standard and free :nerd:

Hi, interesting discussion. Been lurking for a while, torn between a GTD and the upcoming A3 with the same 181 bhp engine (currently driving a MKV Gti) - sound system is quite important to me so I've been keeping an eye on the Dynaudio and B&O systems. If you look at post 20 in the link below, this shows the subwoofer fitted to the A3 with the B&O system which appears to have the same enclosure as the Dynaudio.
As you can see, the A3 comes fitted with a space saver, so I would hope this would also be the case with the Golf (assuming the UK spec includes the subwoofer - info on the actual GTI / GTD specs seems to be shifting around hourly at the moment!)
-
Would help if I'd have included the link!

Go for the GTD...

Hmm, one of the reservations I'm having is that from what I have been able to find out, if the Dynaudio does come with a sub in the boot, it's a larger diameter than the Audi one and so doesn't fit into the space saver spare wheel, so you would have to loose the spare.
Why can't they use the same part as the Audi one, which allows the spare to be carried as well ?

Hi Norbreck,
That's the point I'm making - it looks like it is the same part as the Audi one - compare and contrast with the Dynaudio below - you can even see Dynaudio or Bang And Olufsen printed on the plastic which would imply part sharing! I think you may be getting confused with the standard plug and play, which doesn't allow space for a spare wheel...

Ah, now that would make more sense thanks.
Now if the dealer could only confirm that Dynaudio deffo 100% comes with the sub in the UK, I'd be happy, bit apparently he's spoken to a couple of people at Milton Keynes, one said yes the other no - so god knows how much VW headquarters in the UK know about the cars they are selling

Yeah - my thoughts exactly. Hopefully there's one build of the Dynaudio kit worldwide, but it would be nice to know exactly what is included for your 520 quid! Incidentally I paid about the same for the sound pack in my MkV - as it was a new option at the time, couldn't see or hear it so ordered blind, same issue as with the Dynaudio at the moment. Turned out ok but not worth the cash IMO :) Trying not to repeat the experience, although to be fair the rest of the car has been superb....
-
Sorry to drag an old thread up, but I'm still trying to find out what happens if you do get the sub. As mentioned on the Audi A3 the sub fits into the space saver spare wheel, which is fine as Audi don't fit the spare with the polystyrene insert that holds the wheel brace, jack etc. instead, these are fitted either outside the spare wheel (on the boot floor) and the tools in a tool bag in the boot right hand side storage compartment.
Now every VW I've seen over the last few years has taken to storing all these in the polystyrene insert within the spare wheel. So the question is, if we are lucky enough to have the same sub as the Audi system, what happens to the jack and the tools ? As usual, dealer is no help what so ever.
-
Norbreck21a, if the dealer is struggling to get info on this then why not try e-mailing Dynaudio direct? If anyone should know how the kit fits together then they should.
Edit - just had a quick look on their website and they point you in the direction of VW!

After hearing a sample of my music with and without Dynaudio (older, so without a sub I assume) I couldn't really appreciate much difference, not when driving along with noise from the engine, road, wind and other stuff outside. I get why people would want the audio to be the best on offer, but for me it's just not worth it. I'd rather spend the money on an option that offers something functionally above the base-spec.
-
I've got Dynaudio in my MK6 and the tyre noise is so great that you can't really appreciate it at lower volumes.
A sub has to be worthwhile to drown out the road noise hum but the mk7 would have to have massively less tyre noise than the mk6 for me to spend money on Dynaudio.
To be fair I'd not have specced it on the mk6 either but it came free with the (ex-demo) car.

That's what makes us all different

Posted this up in another thread.
Just had VW customer services call me back form my query of last week, and they have now 100% confirmed, that the Dynaudio not only comes with a Sub in the boot, but that it fits into the space saver spare wheel which is also delivered (as per the new Audi A3), and therefore you still get a spare not a silly can of puncture foam that ruins your tyre.
Happy days !!!

This makes me happy! Dynaudio on my Scirocco is 'nice' but I am sure on the Golf it will now be 'awsome'

Excellent news!!

That's much better.
A sub will make a huge difference as the standard Dynaudio is a little lacking.
Still don't think I want to spec it though, I'll just add some huge tyres and drown out the music that way!! Just like I did with the mk6s

Great, went with the Dynaaudio and didn't know about the sub :)

Hi All
A bit of a thread resurrection, but at the weekend I fitted the official VW Helix Plug & Play Sound Upgrade to my MK7 GTI.
I did much research before going for this, and found only really positive reviews about this kit. Helix is apparently a very well respected German audio company, and those that know their music have concluded that this is a great setup!
Installation took about 2 hours, and by purchasing a extended plastic retaining bolt (about £12.00), it is possible to keep the spare wheel.
The difference is nothing short of remarkable. I don't have much to compare it to except for the standard setup, and the Bose system I recently had in an Audi A1, but to say that I am pleased would be a significant understatement! A switch can be purchased (under £20 from VW), which enables a selection between standard and Helix.
The only downside was the need to purchase a programming dongle from VW to set select the correct vehicle, as it has pre-set settings. In the States a forum member purchased on and then rents it out for a small fee, but I couldn't find anyone in the UK offering this. It is only required for about 30 seconds to set!
Anyway, any questions please let me know. As you can guess, I highly recommend this kit!
