Debadged one side of my girlfriends car as the vinyl was lifting on one corner anyway and gone to do the other side and the main dealer has lacquered over the vinyl sticker! I know it was because they're the only people who have ever done any repair work to the car and its only a year and a half old. Where do I stand with this as if I peel it off it will create lacquer peel and they'll tell me it was my fault. I just think its really bad they've lacquered over it!

their cock up, not yours. tell em to fix it!

Can you prove they are responsible? If not I doubt you will get anywhere with it.

i'd assume he can prove it. If a panel repair was done and they didn't bother to remove the vinyl and replace it then they've not carried out the repair adequately in my opinion.

That doesn't actually prove anything. They'll deny they are responsible and it will be your word against theirs.

This...
It could quite easily be pre delivery damage that was sorted before the first owner even took delivery of the car! OP should check through the SH of the vehicle, on the off chance that the dealer did some bodywork that was invoiced to the first owner, other than that, I would say OP is pissing into the wind!

i am assuming that he's owned the car from new. if that is not the case then i agree with you guys.

I quite happily put some part worns from the Passat onto the Golf when the Passat was due rear tyres, did all four and put the two good fronts on the rear of the Golf.
Obviously I knew the history of the tyres in my possession but didn't know what they'd been like with the previous owner of the Passat!

If no complaint was made when the owner got the car back after the repair then there is no claim.
