Title: Rear view mirror

I've removed my rear view mirror by popping it off the ball and socket joint. To re-attach it I removed the metal ring around the socket. Now I can't for the life of me get the ring back in place. Has anyone else done this?

Brute force works.

Heres a tip - never take out your interior mirror :)

Is it all completely free from the windscreen mate ?

If so, pop it all into boiling water so the plastic can expand enough just to reconnect everything
