I am soon to buy an MK6 GTD. As an example, I have seen some very new models with 40k on the clock for the same price as older models with 20k on the clock. Bearing in mind a newer model will benefit from a longer time until an MOT and it is of course not so old and also come with LED rears whereas older models benefit from lower miles. I appreciate diesels will go all day so mileage isnt such an issue but a higher mileage will affect the resale value. So, would you buy the newer car or older car in the example given?

If you do above average mileage get the lowest mileage you can afford, if under the other way around
-
Good comment - I am changing my job to ??? (don't know yet on mileage involved) and from an R32, this is the reason I am going more economical. So as for my annual mileage, tricky to say, but thanks anyway.

Plus I would rather have a high miler that's been up and down the motorways than a low miler that's lived in a town as the wear and tear is significantly reduced with the former
-
Thankyou - so in a nut shell, not bothered with how many miles then!
Regards

You need to view both cars and get a feel for how they have been treated and looked after, I sold my MK5 GT Sport at 3.5 years old with 105k miles and other than a few stone chips on the bumper/bonnet it looked band new.
Good luck

Unless it has starship mileage I'd always go for the newest car my money can buy. So long as it's been properly cared for of course. Every car is an individual and only as good as its previous owner. Go for the best one or if equal then the newest.

Newer car will allow you to add things more easily as it will be fitted with the latest control modules etc.
I always try to pick a car thats been built after June as it will be the next years model. For example my Audi is a 57 plate or MY08 model and was fitted with higher spec modules meaning I can retrofit pretty much anything but at reduced cost :nerd:
-
As its a diesel I wudnt worry to much about the miles(within reason of course)
What I wud be looking at is the same as others have said "the condition" of the said vehicles and I wud also look at what options both cars come with...
Do you know full specs of each car?
-
In your poll they're both so low miles anyway that the newer one would be the one to go for... If the newer had - lets say 90-100K - on the clock then I'd say go for the older.... Depending on condition and options of course.
-
Guys, some excellent advice and I will bear in mind when I do get around to buying - thanks

Some very knowledgeable bods on here, my only regret is not coming here first like you have before buying my car......I want oem Xenons but they are so expensive to retrofit
Most other upgrades are relatively acceptable money wise

Did you upgrade your bulbs? what would be a good alternative to xenons?

Not yet but planning on getting some Osram Night Breaker Plus from www.powerbulbs.com at some point.

What happened to the aftermarkets that you PM'd me about mate?
-
Just one point I'd like to make, but it's not too relevant here as both cars are resonably low mileage, but whilst a diesel engine will stand a higher mileage, the rest of the car will have done the same amount of work too.

They had the fairy light DRL's which I don't like.
Dubber - good chance it's motorway mileage if the cars new which is very easy on a cars components, not a great cause for concern.

That's why I said it wasn't all that relevant here.
On ukpassats, people say how they have bought a car that's done 150k+, but all's fine as it's a diesel, so has got another 150k left in it. Next thing is they are having to replace suspension arms, bushes, dampers etc.

Why not do what I've done, go for a low mileage Gti and moan about fuel consumption. To answer your question, the newer model would come with VW warranty which would be the decider for me.
-
Mileage doesn't really matter in modern cars. As long as its been regularly serviced. I'd look at both and just choose whichever is in best overall condition guess. I'd prob go for the newer one. Longer warranty etc
-
I would not worry about the mileage as others have said. The 2011 will have more standard stuff like the LED rear lights, heated leather seats, bluetooth for you phone and iphone, slightly different engine (oil cap in a different place) (I'd look for one with Xenons/fairy lights ).

Some excellent pointers there and thanks again - looks like a newer car as possible.

Tuff choice but think I would go for the newer Car
