reet been tryin to find out as much as i can about these as im going to be gettin 1 in the next week or 2, and the mrs has to do they deal as i cant get up!!,
ive read a bit about the cam chain tensioners failing on these similar to the cambelt tensioners on 4 cylinder vw engines, so am i correct to assume this is a common problem?
also head gasket probs, these are prone to going on early models too,
so if i were to be buying 120k ish mile one would these probs have occured and been sorted to ready to go?? i m hoping to find one with some history and bills/reciepts etc but any other engine points to look at when buying???

I nearly bought a Highline, but with most of the VR6's I checked out I found these faults
1. The sills had rust in (all at the same place) & the rear arches were starting to go on some.
2. The leccy window motor on work for a few weeks when hit??!!??
3. Cylinder No1 tends leak oil (so i'm told)
But I spoke to 1 owner who had a Highline for sale, that worked at VW & said they had never swapped a cam chain, as they don't tend to go on the later ones.
I belive the early VR's had a cam chain prob with the tensioner going.
Keeping my MK2 now
