Just had a heart in the mouth moment.
I briefly lost power assist on my brakes  Luckily I was only doing about 5mph, but I still sh@t myself!
The engine is still running like a bag of spanners & idling around 500rpm, it seems to be related...
Anyone got any bright ideas?

coil-pack not working right

Possible, but had it on VAGCOM last week & it was only saying temp sensor
Sounds like a tractor atm

check the pipes under the inlet manifold and the hose to the brake servo
-
With Topher on that, my mate recently had a hole in his brake booster pipe near the servo. Gave him a brown pants moment on the motorway at 70

Ill take a look in the morning. Thanks guys

The pipe to the servo comes off the inlet manifold, it'll be split somewhere ....
If the coil packs were knackered it would sound like a Subaru, start the car and unplug the harnesses to the coil packs one by one, you should get a drop in the engine if it's ok, if you unplug one and it does nowt it's buggered, I had one let go last year bought a full set to replace with so still have 3 working one's here......

A little experimenting has lead me to the cause.
Checked & double checked the hoses leading to the servo (all ok). Then decided to do the good old test on it: engine of & pump the break till the vacuum is exhausted, then holding the pedal down turn the ignition on, pedal should give as the vacuum builds up. Which it did until the revs dropped to 500rpm.
So the good news is that it is the engine speed that's the cause. The bad news is I've being fighting this rough running for a while...

any fault codes?
have you tried unplugging the maf to see if it runs any better?
-
Yes I have, I did it several times & it's hit & miss. Meaning sometimes it runs sweet without the MAF but not always
