It's well known that the dealerships only have a tiny allocation of GTI/GTD's per month, 2 or 3 usually i think, thats why i paid a deposit a month ago to avoid being in the queue! It was a nightmare when the 6 had been available to order for a couple of months!  If you have a look at some of the older mk6 threads you'll see that some of the wait times were shocking and i have a feeling it'll be that way with the 7?

I reckon you'll be in the queue with me and simon for an ED40 >:D

Yep. I've just bought a Passat, so I've got no cash for another Golf just yet. If I start saving now, an ED40 should be just about doable.

As James said, hold fire Phil and be one of the first for a ED40, I know I've thort about a 7 esp with all the talk and orders going in at the mo, just makes mine feel real old...but it wud be to much money down the drain so my sensible head is winning at the mo....

I must say when the ED35 is cleaned and polished up it looks the business...so maybe spend my time and money on the ED35 and not in the VW showroom...

More than happy with the 35 so can't see that going anywhere at the moment, it would take an Ed40 to tempt me out of it, mrs w I feel will be making the plunge but even she wants an Ed40 lol

It was a toss up between a new BMW M135i or new Golf Mk7 GTi.... As difficult decision it was, I went with the Golf in the end due to the fantastic deal the dealer was prepared to offer. Ordered yesterday... 5 door DSG in Pure White, with 19" Santiago Alloys, GTi Performance Pack & Adaptive Chassis Control.

What % off list did you get if you don't mind me asking?

Total list price came to something like £30,800 (including all the optional extra's).  Dealer was prepared to knock off £1K straight off, but with a little bit of haggling came down to £29K in the end (2 Year HP Finance @ 6.5%).  The deal breaker was the value on my part-ex, which was over 2.5k what the BMW dealer was prepared to offer me.

What I wasn't too happy about was that the price of the 5 door DSG went up £200 in a matter of a day. When I looked online on the Thursday it was £27,600 but when I went in on the Friday he told me it had gone up to £27,915! Cant complain really... very happy with the deal.

Hello All,

I ordered mine on Wednesday. Actually, I'm in a easy situation because I don't have a car right now as I have been abroad last few years.

It's a cash purchase non of this finance malarkey ;). I got £1155 discount, which is pretty good considering it's not on finance, which dealers are eager to offer.

I haven't decided on the the colour yet, cos I wanted the Carbon Grey Metallic, which I have now discovered is not an option :( so it might be white metallic black or Oryx white (a really cool colour)

My car:

My dad has been suffering from car envy so we've placed an order for him too - he's getting a GTD 5DR DSG in Tornado Red (he likes the pearl black but is too tight to cough up £500 for paint). He currently has a MK5 GT 170TDI.

When I rang Pulman up to finalise everything for my dad's (order will be placed today for his), the salesman said he's just had a bulletin to say that colour MFD is coming in soon as a no cost spec upgrade and may be standard by the time we get ours built (hopeful, but not a guarantee - certainly not a dealbreaker for me, nothing i'd be willing to pay for if not). Not sure whether only the GTDs and GTIs will be getting this "upgrade". Others on here have implied that this is a given, but the only literature reference to standard colour screen relates to the radio unit touchscreen. Finally a semi-solid confirmation.

Can I be the first Irish order?!

Well, I haven't signed on the dotted line yet, but I'm very close. Trading my MK6 GTD and my dilemma is, can I go with white again or is that plain silly?! None of the other colours really float my boat apart from maybe red or the carbon grey (but that means paying for metallic!). I keep looking at my own car and how crisp and sharp it looks in white... it's been so easy to keep compared to the darker metallics I was used to and still looks factory fresh after 2 years.

Anyway, over here the standard spec isn't anywhere near as good as you guys get. Xenons, 18's and climate control are still very costly options!

So this is what I'm going for:
- 3DR White/Red GTI, Manual
- xenons
- 18's
- climate
- Half leather / alancantara (seats look like ED30 seats)
- Basic NAV
- privacy glass

I'm also hoping to get the rear camera, but for some reason it isn't showing up on the options list on the dealers configurator for the GTI. But it is available on the lesser models. Very strange indeed. Is the rear camera an option in the UK?

I have owned two White Sciroccos Joe and decided to go for white in the GTI as its such a nice colour. I did consider red but decided there is to much red in the new GTI.

I feel your pain I used to live in Dublin and the Irish car specs are cack at best. How much are you being fleeced for the GTI in Ireland?

Joe would you not consider an import from N.Ireland and pay the VAT/VRT im not sure if this still works out cheaper as im out of touch?

Thanks! Yeah, I have similar reservations about red. The red stripe on the grill and the other bits might look a bit lost if the whole car is red? Having said that, anytime I see a shiny red MKV / MKVI GTI, I think they look fabulous.

The GTI starts here at €34,400 approx. And if you were to spec it up similar to a UK spec car (wheels, xenons, climate), it would be about €37,500, roughly 32 grand of your money! And you guys think you get fleeced!

I don't think importing it is a feasible option unfortunately, otherwise everyone would be doing it. The import tax and VRT (a tax on top of a tax) makes it a no-go...

I feel you pain Joe as a car lover its a killer living in Ireland.

It might be worth some research on the import option. Unless its changed you used to be able to buy a UK car ex VAT so that would be UK list price - 20%. Import the car to the south and pay Irish VAT + VRT. It might have changed but worth a look. I know it used to be big business for the main dealers in Belfast.

DO IT!!!! I had it on a courtesy mk6 golf while mine was in for it's service and i have to say it's absolutely brilliant!! I think i played with it about 8 times and every time it was perfectly parked, i'm not sure how often i'll use it in my GTI as i wouldn't park it where i would park the courtesy car but for £145 it'd be rude not to! Everybody likes gadgets!

Hey guys... newbie here, found the forum just googling the GTI.

Made the jump, placed my order on Good Friday. After having diesels for 5 years, a Golf MK5 140 TDI and now a Roco 170 TDI, I'm eager for a bit more power and thought sod it.

So ordered the manual 3 door, night blue, manual, performance pack, leather, discover, dynaudio, keyless entry.

Build week 23 at the moment according to the dealer. So cant wait! Look forward to posting a few pics on here when its arrived and sharing the car and vibe with you guys!!

If its any sooner then just call it a "BONUS"

Hi all, just joined up today.  Started the ball rolling yesterday on a new Mk7 GTI, will hopefully sign tomorrow  I'm looking at the following (trading up from a 2005 stock Mk5 GTI in Candy White):
I was in a rush on Friday so haven't got down to any negotiating yet, but hoping for around 5% or thereabouts.  As you can see, the only thing I'm unsure about at the moment is ACC.  I've heard both good and neutral things about it, and I know the best way is to test-drive something with it.  Just wondering if you guys have any experience of it and whether you think it's worth the outlay?  Bearing in mind it will add to the future cost of potential shock-replacements etc.

I'll post back if/when the deed is done and let you know an expected delivery

I've owned two Sciroccos with ACC and I didn't bother spacing it on my order. I always ran the Sciroccos in normal. Comfort is to soft and Sport is great when your hoaking it on but I honestly only used Sport about once a month. Save the cash and go on a holiday..

Cheers mk7gti.  Gotta' admit, there are so many conflicting reviews out there ranging from "it's no different" to "it's great" that I'm airing on the side of not bothering.  I guess like most things it's personal preference, and as ever, you can't miss what you never had.  The ride in my Mk5 on 17s is firm but fine, and I've test-driven a Mk6 GTI on 18s which, if anything, rode even nicer.

Oh you little bugger!

I did notice that the standard spec. states both "Multifunction Computer" and "Multifunction Computer with 3.5" TFT Screen".  But, the configurator still has "colour" as option...  One for the dealer tomorrow me-thinks.

So that would put DCC at roughly £665...getting cheaper by the minute!  I'll just have to see what all of the numbers come out - it's not like I'm concerned that DCC will have a negative impact on the ride, it's more that the "Comfort" setting isn't much different.  I guess I really need to try it, unless anything else becomes standard in the meantime, like everything else I specced ;)

Shame my heart wants the GTI, because my head would be happier with a GTD - cheaper, better residuals, lower monthly payments, lower running costs, less trips to the station (hate standing there filling up!), and in some ways, more understated and with nicer wheels.  I just know that long-term I don't think I'd be happy with it, as I've loved every minute of my current Mk5 GTI.

Or you could think of it as 'saving another £135 quid on top of the saving of ACC ;)

I was in the exact same predicament. Very conflicting reviews online. In the end I read one that said, it's better without all the fuss of so many settings. I asked my dealer about it and he said he never sold a car with it. I did drive the edition 35 Gti (which didn't have it) and it seemed fine. But then again I haven't compared it to a car with it.

Personally, I just wana get in the car and drive, keep things simple.

I think if you can test both, you should for peace of mind.

To be honest, that's just what I've been thinking - together that's like almost a grands worth of stuff.  With comments on here and what I've read, I'm not even going to bother considering or test-driving.  My current car is just fine, and as an extra it's not like I'll see much, if any, of my money back later on.  Future repair and maintenance costs would be a concern to.  As you say, I just want the new GTI and go have some fun!

Cheers guys, appreciate the feedback.  Great community here

How do you know for certain that the 'colour display for multifunction computer' is now standard on the GTD & GTI?

Just sat reading the 1st April 2013 PDF brochure and it says it's an £135 optional extra.

The standard kit list is a bit confusing, because it does refer to a multifunction computer with 3.5" TFT screen is standard.  This is in addition to it also mentioning a standard multifunction computer.  So, not sure where it mentions two, and TFT is colour.

I'm going to my local dealer tomorrow so will question them about it.

I'd specced it on my order then had a call a couple of days later from my dealer to say that when he put the order through he couldn't spec the colour screen but he would investigate why? The next day he called to say the reason was because it is standard now so isn't an option.

A few people have been told the same since, the price lists have changed a couple of times since the 26th (books opened).

The colour multifunction computer is standard now so you could put the £135 towards ACC?  >:D

Hey Jimble,

How do you know for certain that the 'colour display for multifunction computer' is now standard on the GTD & GTI?

Just sat reading the 1st April 2013 PDF brochure and it says it's an £135 optional extra.

Cheers
Gaz

I'd specced it on my order then had a call a couple of days later from my dealer to say that when he put the order through he couldn't spec the colour screen but he would investigate why? The next day he called to say the reason was because it is standard now so isn't an option.

A few people have been told the same since, the price lists have changed a couple of times since the 26th (books opened).

VW seem to be a bit slow with the configurator atm.

Thanks for that Jimble

One less thing to tick on the options list.

I've owned two Sciroccos with ACC and I didn't bother spacing it on my order. I always ran the Sciroccos in normal. Comfort is to soft and Sport is great when your hocking it on but I honestly only used Sport about once a month. Save the cash and go on a holiday..

The ACC on my Roc is useful in the winter, I set it on comfort when the potholes appear to lessen the blow when you inevitably hit one you can't see that is full of snow or rainwater. On my first Roc (09/140TDI GT) it was fitted with Dunlops and 2 of these developed sidewall bulges following encounters with very minor potholes). When I got my 11 plate 170TDI Roc, I haven't had any tyre damage at all attributed to potholes, but it did have Pirellis on from the factory. I have found that even the sport mode is massively less harsh than the set-up of my old MK5 Golf GT Sport 170TDI, so I am wondering whether MK6 (and expecting same on MK7) has a far better suspension set-up or whether ACC is really that much better than standard GT/GTD suspension on a Golf.

BTW I have had 2 warranty claims for my ACC on the Roc, both in consecutive Januarys, starting up on a very cold morning. I don't think the system likes the cold. I'm not ordering it on the GTD.

But from when is it standard? My dealer has had definite indication that it will be coming in as standard but is unsure from which build week it will happen. He is quite confident mine will probably get it but couldn't say for definite, depending upon build week.

OK guys, deal done, deposit paid.  Ended up with exactly the car I wanted with DCC.  I took a GT spec car out with it, and noticed an appreciable difference in the way the car handled and responded between sport and comfort.  I wouldn't say there is such a thing as too soft when riding over some of the bad roads around here!

To ease the decision, I got an extra £500 part-ex on my car and around 6% discount on the entire package.  Also got free servicing, paint protection, plush mats, full tank of fuel, GTI pen and a VW keying, lol.

Oh, and as of right now, the colour multifunction is not standard.

Do let us know on that 'Colour display for multifunction computer' as it's annoying. Going to place my order tomorrow and still wondering whether I need to tick the box or not? I know it's only £135 quid but I'd rather have it in my pocket or two tanks worth of the black stuff

I certainly will.  At the moment it would appear that standard is a low-quality monochrome matrix display, and the TFT screen is higher resolution but greyscale.  To make it colour would appear to be an option according to the current price list.

For such a trivial item I'm not going to worry about it too much.  I've ticked it, so will get it regardless.  I don't need to pay for it until I collect the car, at which point I'll be checking what's standard and what's not.  If it's standard by the time I collect my car, I'll just insist on getting £135 back on top of my trade-in and see what they say!

What build week have you early orderers been told?
Mine is currently wk22 (first week of June), so hopefully early/mid July delivery.

Of course, that may change.

Can't wait. Those Xenons look soooo good.

When did you place your order ?,I placed mine about 1 week ago but VW order tracker just shows processing at the moment,on the invoice it says delivery estimated as the end of june

Thanks Simon

It was the screenshot from the dealer's ordering system that said wk22 not the VW Order tracker.
That is the same as yours 'processing'.

My mistake, I've edited my post.
Has your dealer given you a build week yet?

I ordered last week.

Looks like a fantastic car.

He did mention a build week but I can not remember what he said he is going to ring me when he knows more ,they are going to change the spec on one of the GTI`s they already had on order the same as when I ordered my MK6.The MK6 came in early it took about 8-10 weeks so hopefully the MK7 will be the same.

From what I can see Broadspeed are the first broker to show the GTI & GTD.  They reckon they can shave a healthy £2,350 off list price.  I've never used them before, but have used Drive the Deal a few times and they've been brilliant.

Broker route is ok if you've no part ex to shift. Did it once, but when you do have a part ex the savings are generally negated by the poor part-ex price which will probably be on a par with what "webuyanycar" will offer you. Better to get a decent part ex price and look to get 5% off the new one (or the equivalent in freebies). In the end I settled for £850 over book for my part ex and free servicing pack and back to invoice GAP (about £1600 worth at full RRP of GAP, about £1400 worth with "real" GAP pricing). Was happy with that on a car so new that isn't even available to see in the flesh yet.

So if you go the broker route, then its advisable to sell your car privately?  I've just done a Broadspeed quote and they're £2,341 cheaper than VW - that is a massive saving.  Has anyone actually used Broadspeed before?  Am wary of a "too good to be true" scenario  :undecided:

Absolutely, Brokers are an option that will work for some folk, depending on their current car and trade-in situation.  There's no doubt though that a number of brokers showing good discounts will help a lot with negotiating that percentage discount and good trade in with your dealer.

My advice would be to find out what brokers can offer, get some realistic valuations for your current car, then speak to a couple of dealers and see what they can do.

Brokers are fine as long as they are the middleman for a UK VW dealership and not bringing in grey imports (you don't hear about grey imports from Malta/Ireland much now, but they are usually missing UK specced equipment - maybe smaller wheels, no fogs etc). You will get the best price for your trade-in privately. The dealerships don't give you a great price through a broker AND a great part ex price. Sometimes they're robbing peter to pay paul in that respect.

If you're trading in a nearly new Golf though, many people prefer dealing with a dealership for a used £12k Golf than buying privately, so it can be hard to go the private route. Don't forget the commission fee you have to pay to broadspeed when weighing up your "deal".

For my circumstances it looks like they value my current car at £14200 and would save you £2300 on list for my GTD. The part ex I got is £15500, £1300 more than the broadspeed part ex value. Broadspeed want £200 fee, so at the moment I am £800 better off with broadspeed than through my dealership deal. Factor in the GAP insurance they gave me and the servicing package and we're talking negligible gains and the inconvenience of maybe going halfway across the country to pick up the new car depending upon where their prefered dealership is.

For me in my current situation it's not worth the bother, but I tend to use the brokers prices and low part-ex as a yardstick to determine the "cost to change". Ask for £2300 off the list from a main dealer for a GTD right now and they'll tell you to get lost. Ask for £1000 off when they're valuing the part ex at £1300 more than the broker and you might get a deal. The cost to change will be the same going via either route.

If you have no part-ex to chop in then by all means go the broker route - easy discount! Brokers can leave you waiting longer for your car if the supplying dealership gives preference to it's normal retail customers for it's limited allocation on the limited supply stuff though.

I'd considered DSG but as effortless as it made the drive, I felt somewhat "bored" for want of a better word.  Sure is good in stop-start traffic though!

I've wrestled so loooong over this decision and considered loads of other cars. I'll be very sad to see my Scirocco go. One of the best sculpted cars of the last 10 yrs IMHO. I'll have to accept my new GTD won't be as pretty. But you can't beat the blend of power/economy and all the new technology (really looking forward to ADC with DSG - the car will practically drive itself + DAB + Bluetooth + Bi-Xenons + LED lights all round + Tartan seats cool) Overall it's a great package for the price. The new Merc A Class and BMW 1 Series are very badly specced in comparison in standard guise (some would say a rip-off).

Just hoping the delivery won't be as long as quoted (but I accept if it is).

Oh yeah - I just love the DSG box and couldn't live without it now (used it for 3 1/2 years on my Scirocco) it's wonderful in heavy motorway traffic.

But, it's each to their own

GTI 3 Door Manual with Performance Pack
Deep Black
Winter Pack
Dynaudio

I too will really miss my Scirocco, by far the best car I have ever owned - absolutley love it.  But hoping the GTI will be just as good as it, if not better.

Going to be leasing it through the business £322 a month ex vat.

Very excited, no delivery date as yet, only just placed the order.

Haha, I wrestled over my decision for all of, what, 2 days?!  Literally saw pictures of the new GTI on Friday morning and that was it...sold!  I gotta' admit, I hated the rear of the Scirocco when it first came out, but it really started to grow on me.  Now I think it's actually a really nicely sculpted car as you say.

If I spent more time in the car and in more traffic I'd probably change my tune on DSG, but in a GTI and the sort of miles and driving I do, the extra outlay just isn't worth it for me.  However, in a GTD with a lot of range and motorway cruising, I can certainly see the benefits and appeal.

Although it is a lot of money, when you look at what you are getting, it's not actually that bad value really.  As I've said in a previous post, it's all the car I ever need, quiet, comfy, effortless to drive, and brings a smile to my face.  Just so happens that I think it looks far better than the over-styled alternatives too!
